EarthBound Beginnings Brings Mother to Wii U

During the Nintendo World Championships 2015, Nintendo announced EarthBound Beginnings, a localized port of the original Mother, for Wii U Virtual Console.

The game will be available for download on the Nintendo eShop tonight at 6pm PT. While you patiently wait for it to launch, take a look at some gameplay footage in the announcement trailer below.

For those who don't know, Mother is the predecessor to EarthBound (or Mother 2 as it's known in Japan) and released on the original Nintendo Entertainment System back in 1989. While the game was localized into English, it never was actually released in North America.

Nintendo is set to hold its E3 Digital Event on Tuesday, so be sure to stay tuned to IGN for more exciting announcements from the house of Mario.

I was just basically like, 'Well, if I'm going to do a studio movie, like, I want it to be Batman' -- which at the time I just meant, if I'm going to do a studio movie, I want it to be a big ol' thing."
