IGN SPOTLIGHT

It Follows

After a positive debut at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival, It Follows received a wider release earlier this year to significant critical acclaim. A hauntingly original and genuinely unsettling take on the slasher genre, It Follows is basically The Ring with sex. The curse here is a slow-moving but relentless killer apparition who appears – but is only visible to you – when you sleep with someone already cursed, who’s now passed on the curse to you. The only way to escape is to sleep with someone new, who will in turn be stalked.

6 Wrestlers Who Never Recovered After a John Cena Feud

With WWE's Battleground now over and its dust finally settling, it appears that John Cena's multi-PPV feud with Kevin Owens has come to a close. And as U.S. Champ Cena likely heads back up into the main event to face Seth Rollins at SummerSlam for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship (though that match is not officially announced yet as we publish this piece), it's hard not to worry for Owens, who now might not only hop down to the mid-card, but perhaps even off RAW entirely as he has an NXT TakeOver main event against Finn Balor to focus on.

Why be actively worried for Owens though? He's a veteran of the business and an incredible talent. Why are we fretting for his future? Well, because some of the up-and-comers who have feuded with Cena have gone on to do... not much else. Now, to be fair, feuds with Cena helped make the likes of Edge and Randy Orton, who both benefitted greatly from working main events with the guy. And back when WWE had two world titles, twice as many guys were able to orbit the main event picture.

New Gotham: Season 2 Teasers

On the heels of the news that Michael Chiklis has joined Gotham as a series regular comes two new Season 2 promos.

Gotham: Season 1 Review

One features Jim Gordon swearing to take down Peter Scolari's Commissioner Loeb, The Penguin as Gotham's new crime lord, and a glimpse of Cameron Monaghan's "Joker," while the other shows young Bruce's descent down to his father's secret "cave" lair. All while a slowed down cover version (are there any other type of trailer songs these days?) of Duran Duran's "Hungry Like the Wolf" plays.

First Hands-On with Doom Multiplayer

Editor’s Note: Because of how crowded the Doom area was at QuakeCon, I was only able to play one match of multiplayer. These are my early impressions. I’ll update the story tomorrow after I’ve had more time with the game.

I was pretty sure game developers were running out of ways to creatively kill people in video games. Then I played some Doom multiplayer at QuakeCon 2015.

Here’s a thing that can happen during a round of Team Deathmatch.

In the loadout menu, you can choose to carry around a personal teleporter instead of a trusty frag grenade. After throwing the device, you tap your equipment button again to warp yourself to its location. If you’re lucky or skilled enough to land the teleporter directly beneath an enemy, well… something’s gotta give – and it’s the fleshy body of the unfortunate person you just warped into.

Five Nights at Freddy’s 4 Jump-Scares an Early Release

The fourth installment in the horror franchise Five Nights at Freddy's is now available.

Without fanfare or much to-do, the game appeared on Steam for $8 USD. The scheduled release date was originally August 8.

The game, which is fully titled Five Nights at Freddy's 4: The Final Chapter, was initially slated for a Halloween release. Developer Scott Cawthon teased the spooky Halloween release back in April. The release was then pushed up to August 8 to coincide with the anniversary of the release of the original Five Nights at Freddy's.

This Week in the Nintendo eShop

After a number of slow weeks, the eShop is actually kind of crowded this week. First up, we have a pair of games coming to both Wii U and 3DS. There is Binding of Isacc Rebirth, which is the remake/expansion of the critically acclaimed game that came out on PlayStation platforms last year. Note that the 3DS version is a rare New 3DS exclusive and this game isn't crossbuy. However, Dragon Fantasy: The Volumes of Westeria, is crossbuy on Wii U and 3DS. It also previously came out on PlayStation platforms. In addition to those games, which have a bit of retro vibe, a pair of honest-to-god retro games are launching as well. 3D Streets of Rage 2 is the latest in Sega's fantastic 3D Classics games on 3DS, and DK Jungle Climber is this week's Wii U Virtual Console game.

Sharknado 4 Announced

The blood has barely dried from the last Sharknado attack, and already another storm is brewing.

Syfy and The Asylum announced today that Sharknado 4 will come out in July 2016. Fans will influence a plot point for the sequel, as Syfy is leaving it up to those at home to vote on whether April Wexler (Tara Reid) will live or die after the events of Sharknado 3. You can vote by either visiting the official site or by using the Twitter hashtag #AprilLives or #AprilDies.

Syfy boasted that Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No! received two billion Twitter impressions, double the number of Sharknado 2: The Second One. For the sake of comparison, it claims this meant more Twitter activity than the final season of Mad Men, the last season of The Bachelor, and the Hillary Clinton presidential announcement.

How to Prepare Your PC for Windows 10

Are you ready for the next iteration of Windows? If you’re planning to update your system as soon as Windows 10 launches next Wednesday, you’ve got some work to do. It doesn’t matter if you intend to do an upgrade instead of a clean install—you’ll still want to ensure a smooth transition. We've outlined the steps you should take to make it a painless switch.

In order to know how to properly prepare, you should weigh the following:

  • What operating system do you use now?
  • Which data do you want to preserve?
  • Are you currently plagued by bugs and errors?

The first thing to consider is your operating system version—only Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 users can do an in-place upgrade, which means you don’t have to migrate your data and reinstall all your programs. Sorry, Vista users (and the XP faithfull!), you must do a clean install; skip on down to the next step to get on with your prep.
