This Massive Thor Cover Is Worthy of the Gods

The adventures of Jane Foster as Thor will continue in the pages of the relaunched The Mighty Thor this November. To give a glimpse of what's to come -- and to blow our minds -- series artist Russell Dauterman and colorist Matt Hollingsworth conjured up a grand image of Thor's allies and enemies, with both of Jane's personas as the centerpiece. Behold!

Mighty_Thor_1_Gatefold

To attempt to crack to secrets of this gorgeous, stunning piece of art, we hopped on the phone with The Mighty Thor writer Jason Aaron. We asked him about the presence of Loki and Beta Ray Bill, he pointed out a few details (including a new character), and he talked about the brewing war in the Ten Realms that Jane will face once Secret Wars ends. We also talked about his current Thors series and how that will play into the new series, plus we snuck in a question about his violent and engrossing Image Comics series, Southern Bastards, to find out when we'll see that character join the story.

Scalebound Isn’t the Game You Think It Is

A love of video games has flowed through Hideki Kamiya’s veins since he was young, but it wasn’t until he purchased his first PC during his high school years that his mind was fully opened to their potential. His new machine took him on journeys beyond the simple inputs of the mid-’80s arcades and introduced him to a myriad of mythical creatures that would quickly become a life-long obsession.

“It opened up a whole new set of games I could play; action games, adventure games, RPGs,” Kamiya says, sitting across from me in his PlatinumGames studio in Osaka, Japan. “Those games had a great influence on me.”

“Also,” he adds with a smile, “they introduced me to dragons.”

Dragons (and other giant beasts) have roamed the fertile fields of Kamiya’s mind since he started his career proper at Capcom in 1994. They’ve appeared in various guises throughout his games, from the griffin in the original Devil May Cry to the dragons in 2009’s Bayonetta and 2013’s The Wonderful 101. But their depiction in popular culture as fiendish monsters - prizes to take down with an earth-shaking thud - hasn’t always sat comfortably with Kamiya.

Mojang Wants Minecraft to Work Cross-Platform

Mojang has revealed the recently-announced Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition is the first step towards building a more unified community for the game.

Speaking to IGN at Gamescom 2015, CEO Jonas Martensson explained the underlying code that means the new edition can be played using an Xbox One controller, touchscreen or keyboard and mouse is the first step towards the company's aims of allowing cross-platform play.

Soon after launch, Windows 10 Edition owners will be able to play with those who've opted for the Pocket Edition, with plans to bring both Xbox 360 and Xbox One players into the fold further down the line.

Mojang: ‘There’s Been no Discussions About Minecraft 2′

Mojang has denied even discussing the possibility of creating a sequel to Minecraft, with the company's CEO explaining he's perfectly happy continuing to iterate on the existing game.

Speaking to IGN at Gamescom 2015, Jonas Martensson explained that while he was wary of suggesting there would never be a follow-up to the game, it certainly isn't something Mojang is thinking about at the moment, with the team believing Minecraft will still be around in 10 years.

"First of all, there's been no discussions about Minecraft 2 at the moment," he said. "I can't promise forever there'll never be a Minecraft 2, but for the foreseeable future there won't be.

"I think we've always been listening to the players and one big step has been to bring the game to all platforms and letting people play together. We also want to make sure the creativity of the community is still there, so we can allow and empower all our users to create plugins or mods, then I think then the community will take the game where it's going to be in five years."

I Raided a Tomb in Rise of the Tomb Raider

One of the few complaints people had with the 2013 Tomb Raider reboot is that it lacked its namesake. Lara spent a lot of time exploring the island of Yamatai and killing its residents, but not a lot of time raiding tombs. This fall’s sequel, Rise of the Tomb Raider, is about Lara becoming more than just a survivor and, yes, there is a greater emphasis on breaking into underground boneyards. I got to play through a tomb today at Gamescom and am happy to report it was a lot of fun.

We begin in Syria, where voice recordings left by Lara’s father guess a great treasure is waiting to be discovered. At E3 we got to see Lara fending off enemies in Syberia and now we’re in an arid desert land. It will be interesting to see how all this globetrotting affects the feel of Tomb Raider considering the entire first game took place on one island.

Producer Says He’s Working on Sherlock Holmes 3 Script

Lionel Wigram – producer of Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes movies – has been talking about the potential for a third film in the series.

Wigram and Ritchie have been busy promoting their new collaboration – a film version of 1960s spy series The Man From U.N.C.L.E. – and while IGN was quizzing them on that subject, we asked about the super-sleuth series.

“We’re working on a Sherlock Holmes 3 script” Wigram explained. “I think we would all love to do one if we could come up with something that really was really going to knock it out of the park and was going to be the best of the three. So we’re working on that – it’s quite hard to do.”

As for whether Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law would be game for reprising their roles as Holmes and Watson, Wigram simply said “Very. Very.”
