USA Network’s Colony Not Another Falling Skies

USA Network screened the pilot episode of its upcoming series Colony at New York Comic Con today. After the show, star Josh Holloway (Lost) joined executive producer Carlton Cuse (Lost, Bates Motel, The Strain) and writer/executive producer Ryan Condal (2014’s Hercules) to discus the sci-fi espionage drama.

This was only the second time Colony has been shown publicly. Judging by the quality of the pilot and audience reactions, USA may have another solid show on its hands.

The pilot gradually builds outward from an intimate scene with Will and Katie Sullivan, played by Holloway and Sarah Wayne Callies (The Walking Dead), and two of their three children. The whereabouts of the third child aren't revealed right away, but it's clearly a traumatic issue for the family.

AMC Does Martial Arts with Into the Badlands

A martial arts series set in the feudal society that emerged after the destruction of civilization, taking place hundreds of years in the future? Airing on AMC, birthplace of such hit series as The Walking Dead, Mad Men and Breaking Bad!? This is Into the Badlands, and it sounds like a unique combination of elements to say the least.

The cast and producers of the show hit New York Comic-Con to show off footage from the new show and delve into what Badlands is all about. In attendance were stars Daniel Wu (who’s also a producer on the show), Aramis Knight, Marton Csokas, Emily Beecham and Orla Brady along with executive producers Al Gough, Miles Millar and Stephen Fung.

The Badlands is the area where the characters live in this weird new world, and which is divided among a group of rival barons. These barons use assassins, or clippers, to maintain their dominance over their subjects, with Daniel Wu starring as the deadly clipper Sunny. He works for Baron Quinn (Marton Csokas), the top dog among the barons who is now facing a threat from a baron known as The Widow (Emily Beecham). Sunny also finds an ally in M.K. (Aramis Knight), a teenager who has a bounty on his head -- and a dark secret of great importance.

Elementary’s Sherlock Out of a Job

Elementary stars Jonny Lee Miller, Lucy Liu and John Noble joined executive producer Robert Doherty at New York Comic Con to talk about the end of season three and where the detective and his faithful companion are headed after the disastrous finale.

Spoilers for Elementary Season 3 (and mild spoilers for Season 4) follow!

Season 3 ended with Miller’s Sherlock succumbing to his heroin addiction after savagely beating his former dealer Oscar (Michael Weston). Season 4 picks up in the immediate aftermath of that incident with Sherlock facing possible prosecution and jail time.

As a result, his consultancy with the NYPD is at an end and both he and Liu’s Dr. Watson are out of work. In a trailer screened for the audience, the FBI seems to step in to offer Sherlock a temporary gig.

Bradley Cooper’s Limitless Scene Revealed

We’ve seen Bradley Cooper’s next Limitless appearance, which shows Senator Edward Morra in a somewhat different light. Spoilers ahead!

The scene, which takes place in the sixth episode “Side Effects May Include…”, opens with Brian (Jake McDorman) waking up on a rooftop after a blow to the head. Morra is there too, ready for another heart to heart with his NZT protégé.

Morra reveals he gave Finch the life saving injection he needed while he was out. Finch resists what should be welcome news, apparently worried that it means he’ll have to frame his FBI handler Rebecca (Jennifer Carptenter) for something. (Earlier in the episode, Morra or one of his underlings must have threatened to hold back the injection unless Finch agreed to frame her.)

Spelunky High Score World Record Broken

Spelunky has a new world record high score: $3,404,400.

The record was broken today by longtime Spelunky score runner Kinnijup, who just narrowly beat the previous record of $3,399,600 set by twigglefly in June.

You can watch part one of the full world record run below, with part two available on Twitch.

$3.4 million is a remarkable achievement considering that Spelunky creator Derek Yu thought even a score of $3 million was impossible as recently as last year. Kinnijup’s score record comes after a big summer for Spelunky, with new world records by SpelunkyGod (beating the game’s main path in 1:41) and dtea (beating the game’s more challenging Hell route in 3:44) both achieved in August. All of Spelunky’s world records are indexed on fan-run site Moss Tier.

Asus’s Water-cooled Laptop Looks Insane

We first saw Asus's insane water-cooled GX700 laptop at IFA this year and it looked insane. The top of the line gaming machine will run an Intel Skylake processor with an Nvidia GeForce GTX 980. No, I didn't forget to add an 'M' to the end of that; the laptop actually runs a desktop graphics card.

Asus GX700 water-cooled laptop

With all that power comes the need to cooling and that's where Asus's crazy docking station for the GX700 comes into play. Dock your laptop into the massive water-cooling station and water will be pumped through its heat sinks to drop the temps of both the processor and graphics card. Asus promises around 12% drop in temps when the GX700 is docked. We still don't have pricing or availability for the GX700 but will update as soon as we hear.

Mr. Robot Creator, Cast Tease Season 2

Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail took to the stage at New York Comic Con on Friday, October 9th with the entire core cast including Rami Malik, Carly Chaikin, Portia Doubleday, Christian Slater and Martin Wallström.

While Esmail was careful to keep the audience -- and, apparently, the cast -- in the dark (more on that in a moment) about what would happen in Season 2, he did drop just a few hints to whet the appetites of fans of the breakout psychological techno drama, which IGN gave an 8.8.

Major spoilers for Season 1 follow!

Perhaps the only question answered definitively was one that was never really in doubt. When Slater was asked if his Mr. Robot persona would return, the actor said he had no idea and that his original deal didn’t ensure a multiple season commitment. Esmail immediately countered with a decisive “He’s. Coming. Back.”
