The New Xbox Experience Won’t Feature Kinect Gestures
Kinect gestures won’t be making the jump to the New Xbox Experience.
In an interview with Windows Central, Microsoft’s Mike Ybarra explained the reasoning as to why gestures won’t be present when the new Xbox UI launches.
“With gestures, the reality was the usage was very, very low,” says Ybarra. “So for now, we've cut that from the New Xbox One Experience. So when we launch on the 12th, they won't be in the product.”
Despite the lack of Kinect interactions – which let users ‘swipe’ planes from left to right – Ybarra says the team will be monitoring user feedback, and should users want the feature back, there’s a possibility it’ll return in the future.

Report: Han Solo Prequel Will Be Kasdan’s Final Star Wars Movie
Legendary Star Wars contributor Lawrence Kasdan has revealed 2018's Han Solo prequel will be the last film in the franchise he's involved with.
In an interview with German tabloid Bild (via THR), Kasdan reveals he feels he's done "enough" with the franchise, and in fact only returned for the untitled 2018 flick due to family pressure.
"I have now made four Star Wars movies. That's more than enough," he said.
Kasdan co-wrote 1980's The Empire Strikes Back and 1983's Return of the Jedi, and was persuaded to get involved in The Force Awakens when screenwriter Michael Arndt dropped out. He co-wrote the upcoming movie with director J.J. Abrams, and also took on producer duties. Abrams has heaped praise on the experience of working with Kasdan.
Xbox One’s Free Fallout 3 Promotion has an Expiration Date
If you're yet to cash in your cheque and claim the free copy of Fallout 3 that comes when pre-ordering the latest installment in the franchise on Xbox One, you may want to get your skates on.
During this year's E3, Bethesda's Todd Howard announced copies of Fallout 4 on Xbox One would include Fallout 3 - it was later revealed this would be a pre-order bonus.
Now, Gamespot has noticed that Fallout 4’s store page on Xbox One reveals the deal expires on February 8, 2016. While it's unlikely to affect many of you, best to redeem your code sooner rather than later so you don't forget.
With Alien 5 on Back Burner, Blomkamp Circles Time-Travel Movie
Director Neill Blomkamp doesn't seem to be letting the news Alien 5 is on hold affect him, as he's reportedly already being wooed for another project.
Deadline reports Fox has acquired the rights to The Gone World, the next sci-fi novel by Thomas Sweterlitsch, and is in negotiations with Blomkamp to script and direct it. Though the book isn't published yet, it's apparently all about time travel.
Blomkamp shot to prominence thanks to his debut feature District 9, which picked up an impressive five Oscar nominations. This was followed by Elysium and Chappie.
Kurt Russell Gives Big Trouble Remake His Blessing
Kurt Russell has been talking about the Big Trouble in Little China reboot, stating he doesn’t think the 1986 action flick is sacred, and that he hopes any remake is better than the original.
A new film is being developed with Dwayne Johnson potentially starring, and Russell says he has no problem with someone else having a crack at the title.
“I don’t think anything’s sacred,” he explained. “I know why we did a remake of The Thing with John Carpenter. John wanted to do a movie that was called The Thing, but it was really from the short story Who Goes There? I thought that was exciting – it was a movie about paranoia. I liked that – it was quite different from the movie that was made in 1951 so ours was quite different.

Black Ops 3 Design Director Talks Fan Feedback (and Nickelback)
“Did you just compare us to Nickelback?” laughs David Vonderhaar, studio design director at Treyarch. I’m chatting to Vonderhaar in Activision’s Sydney office about Call of Duty: Black Ops III and my Nickelback question hits the room like a sharp, misjudged fart. I am, after all, likening a series he’s been a part of for over a decade to a band Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney once singled out as the precise reason rock ’n roll is dying.
While it seems clear to me that neither of us are Nickelback fans, Vonderhaar hears me out. Strangely enough Nickelback and Call of Duty are bizarrely alike. Both attract tsunamis of criticism and hostility, and yet both remain massively popular by any measure. It has to be a weird pill to swallow for both parties. I ask Vonderhaar if this is a hard thing to reconcile.

The 20 Greatest Sci-Fi Video Game Worlds
For decades video games have offered fantastic escapes into detailed and memorable sci-fi worlds. But which stand out in our memories? Which sci-fi universes have we enjoyed poring over the most? Below we've compiled 20 of our favorite sci-fi gaming worlds.
All the worlds we selected had to exhibit three qualities:
- Originality - Does the world present at least one fresh idea or concept we haven't seen tackled in fiction dozens of times before?
- Plausibility - The world can be a silly or outlandish place, but does it at least include some foundation in reality we can recognize?
- Consistency - Does the game play by the rules it sets for itself? Is it internally consistent and logical?
