CES 2016: The Most Expensive Headphones at CES

CES 2016 had no shortage of headphones and audio products at the show, but I didn’t fly all the way to Las Vegas to listen to some $25 earbuds. I was after the most expensive, best sounding headphones at the show. And a few companies delivered.

Here are the most expensive and best sounding headphones I found scouring the CES show floor.

Audeze LCD-4 headphones

You may not have heard of Audeze but you will soon. The company announced a partnership with Apple to start carrying its brand new Sine headphones ($499) at Apple Stores. Audeze is an American headphone company that does all of its R&D and manufacturing in the United States. The company’s flagship LCD-4 headphone cost a whopping $4,000 but it’s up there with the best headphones I’ve ever heard. Although difficult to judge a pair of headphones on a noisy show floor, what I heard impressed me, especially when the LCD-4 was paired with the company’s brand new The King amplifier ($4,000).

The Muppets Series Was Lacking ‘Joy, Laughter and Heart’, Says ABC Head

The Muppets is getting a bit of a makeover before it returns for the rest of its Season 1 run.

ABC picked the series up for a full season in October 2015, but shortly after it was announced that initial showrunner Bob Kushell would be departing the project over reported creative differences. The network pulled The Muppets off the air after its first 10 episodes and Galavant's Kristin Newman took over as showrunner for the comedy's final six episodes with the intent to retool its DNA.

ABC President Paul Lee spoke at the 2016 winter Television Critics Association press tour about the decision to pull The Muppets off the air and what he thought some of the issues with its initial run were.

Abrams on Star Wars’ Success and Oscar Potential

With Star Wars: The Force Awakens having become the highest-grossing movie ever in North America, and a true global juggernaut, J.J. Abrams – appearing at the TCA (Television Critics Association) press tour today to promote his Hulu series, 11.22.63 – was asked to comment on its success.

Said Abrams, “I'm grateful to anyone who's gone to see the movie. When I hear anecdotally people have gone seven, eight times, I just want to apologize to, I'm guessing their parents. No, but honestly I'm just very grateful, and I can't believe that it's done. It was three years of very tense work by a lot of people. So I'm just so happy that all the work that everyone did -- even the people you don't see in the movie, the puppeteers who were painted out -- I watched them in 125-degree heat in Abu Dhabi bring BB-8 to life, and then we mercilessly painted them out of the movie. I'm just so glad people get to see all the work that this amazing crew and cast did. So, whatever the numbers are,…I'm honestly just so grateful that the movie's out there and has been well-received.”

No Extended Cut of Force Awakens Planned

Don't expect an extended cut of Star Wars: The Force Awakens when the blockbuster film comes to Blu-ray and DVD later this year.

Asked if such a version will be included at the TCA (Television Critics Association) press tour today, J.J. Abrams said, “There will be deleted scenes

, but not an extended version.”

Abrams was asked what the longest cut of the film was, as it went through the editing process and replied, “I don't remember what the longest cut was. Probably, if it were with credits, close to two hours and 50 minutes or something, the first cut. But I don't remember what it was

.”

Though he’s shared enthusiasm for what Rian Johnson has planned for Star Wars: Episode VIII, Abrams didn’t want to delve into what excited him most about the film, as he hands over the reins to Johnson. “I wouldn't want to do that because it's not my movie to talk about, but I will say Rian's an amazing writer and director, and I'm obviously really excited about what he's going to do.”

J.J. Abrams Wants More Rey Merchandise Too

There have been many noticing that Daisy Ridley's Rey, despite being the main character in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, is oddly missing in certain aspects of the merchandising - and J.J. Abrams shares their frustrations.

While there are several Rey action figures (which seems to constantly sell out, as the character's popularity has soared with he movie's release), Rey was left out of a collection of large figures made available at Target, which included Finn, Poe, Chewbacca, Kylo Ren, a Stormtrooper and a TIE Fighter Pilot. And Finn and Chewbacca were the characters included with the new Hasbro Millennium Falcon toy, despite Rey piloting the ship in the film. More recently, many noticed that Rey was not one of the figures that were part of a multi-generational Star Wars Monopoly set, leading Hasbro to decide to add her later this year. All of these occurrences have led to the popular #wheresrey hashtag on Twitter.
