Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits Coming to PS4 This Week

PlayStation 2 RPG Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits is coming to PlayStation 4 later this week.

"For years, the Humans and the Deimos have been at war in their struggle to capture the Great Spirit Stones," states the blurb on the official PlayStation blog.

"To the Humans, the stones represent a magical source of power and light. To the Deimos, the stones are the viable force behind their spell-casting abilities. But fate is about to place the future of both races in the hands of two men."

In our Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits review way back in 2003, we said that: "Take it for what it appears to be, and Twilight of the Spirits is a commendable but flawed RPG romp through a traditional medieval world. Take it for what it is, however, and you'll discover something a lot more meaningful."

Why Was the Original Final Fantasy So Seminal?

I've always considered myself a big Final Fantasy fan, but in reality, I've only ever played a small number of the core entries since Final Fantasy VII brought both series and genre into my awareness back in 1997. Worse still, I realised, after smashing through the HD Remaster of Final Fantasy X and its direct sequel a year back, that I've completed even less of them; only three if I disregard spin-offs and sequels.

This got me thinking: How big a fan could I really be?

That thought has stayed with me for a while now, leading to an overwhelming urge to go back to the series' humblest beginnings. With entries I-X all playable via PSN in some form, I decided to do just that, and recently jumped right into the 2007/2008 remaster of the original, genre-defining Final Fantasy, interested to see how well it holds up today…
