Rashida Jones on the Appeal of the “Really Dumb” Angie Tribeca
Rashida Jones returns to TV this Sunday for her first series since Parks and Recreation with Angie Tribeca. Utilizing the deadpan parody style of comedy popularized by Zucker Abrahams Zucker in films like Airplane! and The Naked Gun, the absurdist series stars Jones as the title character, a tough, no-nonsense cop.
The show is debuting in a very unique way, with TBS airing the 10-episode season several times in a row, during a 25-hour marathon, before weekly episodes begin a week later… with Season 2, which is already in production.
I spoke to Jones about what appealed to her about Angie Tribeca -- which is executive produced by her The Office co-star Steve Carell and his wife, Nancy Carell -- and what it’s like making a comedy in this style. Jones has also become a writer, producer and director in recent years, and we briefly spoke about her co-writing a small movie called Toy Story 4.
Christian Bale Exits Mann’s Ferrari Biopic Over Health Concerns
Christian Bale will no longer be playing the role of Enzo Ferrari in the film of the same name.
Deadline reports that Bale has stepped down due to concerns regarding the amount of weight he'd have to put on to play the Italian automaker.
Spring of this year was just not enough time for Bale to safely put on all that extra weight. Director Michael Mann is looking to now cast a fuller-figured actor to play Ferrari.
Bale's exit isn't slowing production, Deadline says—the project is still on track. Financed by Vendian Entertainment and YooZoo Bliss Film Fund, Enzo Ferrari will start filming in Italy in the summer. The film is written by Troy Kennedy-Martin (Edge of Darkness), and based on Brock Yates's book, "Enzo Ferrari, The Man, the Cars, the Races."
See Supergirl and Martian Manhunter Take Flight Together
We live in a pretty amazing time when it comes to comic book adaptations. After all, who would have thought, just a few years back, a weekly network TV show would include a scene where Supergirl and Martian Manhunter fly next to each other? But that's exactly what we're getting in next week's Supergirl.
EW (click on the link if the embed isn't appearing for you) debuted the clip from Supergirl, which shows Kara (Melissa Benoist) getting some pointers from J'onn J'onzz (David Harewood) on "proper flight technique."
Microsoft Files ‘Roboraid’ Trademark
Microsoft has filed a new trademark for something called "Roboraid."
The trademark (first spotted by DualShockers) was filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office on January 11 under Class 9, designating it as "game software."
The filing doesn't offer any additional information, so whether or not "Roboraid" is a new game for Xbox One, Windows 10 or perhaps both platforms remains to be seen. It's important to note that while this could indeed hint at a new first-party franchise, Microsoft has yet to announce anything related to the trademark.
TMNT 2: Why Tyler Perry Wanted to Play a Villain
Tyler Perry had a very personal reason for taking on the role of Baxter Stockman in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows.
While promoting his new FOX live musical The Passion at the 2016 winter Television Critics Association press tour, Perry spoke to reporters about why he was excited to play a villain in the Ninja Turtles film sequel.
"That was super fun and the movie was super fun. I saw the last one and I thought, 'I want to be a part of this.' I also wanted to give my son, who just turned 1, a different idea of what an actor is, and not just me playing Madea," Perry said. "He's too young to see Gone Girl, so he'll be able to see the Ninja Turtles, and then maybe I'll do something else for him."
X-Files’ Creator Out to Prove the “Show Has More Life To It”
13 years after its original run, creator Chris Carter has brought back FBI Agents Mulder and Scully for a mind-bending 6 episode X-Files event - beginning Sunday, June 24th on FOX.
These new episodes, however, aren't intended to mark end of the series, but to push it forward with new mythology and new monster-of-the-week chapters. With the first and sixth episodes being the heaviest, most mythology-focused ones.
"It’s really a reentry into a series that hasn’t been on the air for 13 years," Carter said of the opening episode, today during the TCA Winter Press Tour, "so I think you needed to get back into the characters’ lives, their quest, where they are, where the relationship is, where their professional lives are. That was a definitely a mythology episode, part of the saga, if you will."
The 100: Get Ready for Bellamy’s New Enforcer Role
The 100 and Bellamy Blake have changed a lot from the “Whatever the hell we want” days of the pilot and that evolution will continue in Season 3. On a visit to the set of The 100, I sat down with Bob Morley to discuss what’s in store for Bellamy this season, as the character discovers his role within the larger group from the Ark, now living in Arkadia (formerly Camp Jaha).
Morley discussed Bellamy becoming an “enforcer,” his dynamic with Michael Beach’s new character Pike, how Bellamy and Clarke have gone in different directions and more.

IGN: Can you say anything about when the season begins, where Bellamy and everyone’s head is at because what happened was so heavy at the end of last season?

Flash Gordon Reboot Hires Thor Screenwriter
Kick-Ass and X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn's reboot of Flash Gordon has drafted Thor and I Am Legend screenwriter Mark Protosevich to rewrite the 20th Century Fox-based sci-fi film.
Protosevich made the announcement of his involvement with Flash Gordon on his Facebook page. Via Hitfix:
"I can't wait to get started and if you're curious about the take? I'm not saying a word. All I'll say is this - it will be nothing like any version of Flash Gordon you've seen."
