Hearthstone: Creating the Discover Mechanic
Hearthstone’s most recent adventure – The League of Explorers – has had a huge impact on the game, introducing meta-shifting new cards like Reno Jackson, as well as a well-received new mechanic – Discover. Any time the player triggers Discover, they’re presented with three random cards (drawn from their class’ card pool and the neutral card pool), and can choose one, which is added to their hand.
Of the 45 cards introduced with The League of Explorers, nine have Discover, and they run the gamut, allowing players to Discover both minions and spells, to synergise with beasts and mechs, and even to Discover cards of a particular cost.
