Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain Has Shipped Over 6 Million Copies

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain has shipped over six million copies since its release in September, Konami has announced.

According to the company's latest financial report, the six million figure includes downloads and those shipped to retailers. The figure helped lead a 37.5% increase in revenue for Konami's digital entertainment segment. The increase was also aided by things like strong global sales of Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card games, and the success of its smartphone title Jikkyou Pawafuru Puroyakyu, which has been downloaded 19 million times.

The shipped units also factored into Konami's increased total operating profit, which jumped to $143.7 million for the first three fiscal quarters, up from $88.3 million previously. The digital entertainment segment was the highest revenue source for Konami, followed by health and fitness.

“As I said, we have a level of conservatism about just the global economy, which at some point in time, there's trouble in the global economy that would impact everybody probably. I think our business seems to be operating pretty consistently, as it has been over the last couple of years. The console purchases up through the end of calendar year 2015, our estimate is 55 million units out there, which has exceeded virtually everyone's forecast for the year, and is now almost 50% higher than the previous console cycle,” Jorgensen said.

The Story of the Forgotten PSP Game, Saints Row Undercover

New information has come to light about the cancelled PSP game Saints Row: Undercover.

The news comes via Unseen64, who, after some detective work, brought the new information to the public with the help of Saints Row developer, Volition.

Saints Row: Undercover was planned to be Volition’s answer to Grand Theft Auto on PSP. The original idea was to port Saints Row 2 to the Sony handheld, but that lofty goal wasn’t possible. Instead, Volition decided the best course of action was to start from scratch, and create a sequel to Saints Row 2 designed specifically for the PSP.
