Bring Your Gen-1 Pokemon to the Modern Versions, Sort Of
UPDATE: According to the official Pokemon site, Pokemon Bank transfers from the Virtual Console versions of Red, Blue, and Yellow will only transfer to Pokemon Sun and Moon versions. Transfers won't work with X/Y or Alpha Sapphire/Omega Ruby.
During its brief Nintendo Direct this morning, Nintendo announced Virtual Console versions of Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow will have Pokemon Bank functionality.
Explaining transfers from Gameboy versions of Pokemon to newer versions simply aren't possible, the Pokemon Company International hopes the new functionality will make up for what proved to be a technical impossibility.
Pokemon Sun and Moon Officially Announced
Pokemon Sun and Moon have officially been announced.
The pair of 3DS games were unveiled during today's Pokemon Direct. The announcement wasn't a total surprise, since trademarks for the games leaked yesterday all but confirming their existence.
Furthermore, the recent debut of the new Pokemon Magearna, hinted that a new installment in the series was on the horizon.
Nintendo also announced the Virtual Console versions of the original Pokemon games will now allow for Pokemon transfers. In other words, Pokemon caught or traded in Red, Yellow, and Blue versions on the 3DS Virtual Console will be transferable to new iterations of the games, including Sun and Moon, via the Pokebank.
Opinion: Why I’m Worried about DC’s Rebirth
Last week DC shed light on their ambitious plans for the DC Rebirth relaunch, which will involve an entirely new lineup of 32 ongoing series and a new approach that seeks to honor the legacy of the DCU. It all sounds very promising, aside from the fact that DC has yet to reveal any of the creative teams attached to these new books. But even though DC Rebirth is exactly the sort of bold move the company needs right now, I'm concerned that DC may be targeting hardcore readers at the expense of everyone else.
There's no question at this point that DC needs a shift in focus. Diamond Comics' January 2016 sales figures showed that, without a new issue of The Dark Knight III to provide a sales boost, DC sold half as many comics as Marvel did. Clearly last summer's "DC You" relaunch didn't work out from a sales perspective. Unfortunately, DC may be taking the wrong lesson from this situation. The philosophy behind DC You was essentially, "Rather than trying to make every book have a broad appeal, we're just going to make sure there's a book for every type of reader." It was a noble goal, and I'm frustrated it didn't work out better. But I'm equally frustrated that DC seems intent on moving in the exact opposite direction with this new relaunch.
