Keep Track of 39 TV Revivals and Reboots
Ecclesiastes 1:9 stated that there's nothing new under the sun. Well, that notion holds especially true when it comes to TV as we now find ourselves in the middle of Peak Reboot. Revivalgeddon. Sequelocalypse.
Whatever you want to call it, a ton of old movies and TV series -- some not even all that old -- are returning as new TV shows and being exploited for any ounce of name value they might still retain with fans.
Of course, there's an upside to this. Some beloved shows and movies are coming back to us complete with their original creators and cast. The X-Files. Evil Dead. Twin Peaks. And while there's no guarantee that these will land well, a sequel series using the original players is definitely the most auspicious TV-vival scenario. A show or film you once loved returning with the same actors and writers in tow.
Gabe Newell Fires Dota 2 Commentator
Valve has fired commentator James Harding from its Dota 2 Shanghai Major presentation, along with the production company behind the tournament. Speaking on Reddit, Valve's Gabe Newell explained, "James is an ass, and we won't be working with him again."
Newell continued, "As long as we're firing people, we are also firing the production company that we've been working with on the Shanghai Major. They will be replaced, and we hope to get this turned around before the main event."
Harding announced that was "let go" from the Shanghai Major following a segment last night. He plans to provide his own statement soon.
No Deadpool/X-Men Crossover Movie in Near Future
Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the screenwriters and executive producers of the blockbuster Deadpool, have tempered fans' expectations for a full on crossover between the merc with a mouth and the related X-Men movie franchise.
The duo informed The Playlist that while Deadpool 2 may see some X-Men pop up in small roles as Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead did in the first film, there are no immediate plans for an X-Men/Deadpool franchise crossover film.
Using the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a model, Reese explained that it took two Iron Man films to set up The Avengers and called that "a very prudent path" for them to follow as well. Reese also cited the X-Men movies' current timeline as an issue (X-Men: Apocalypse is set in the 1980s while Deadpool takes place in the present day).
Laura Vandervoort on Fighting Supergirl as DC’s Indigo
DC Comics villain Indigo makes her debut on Monday’s Supergirl played by a very notable guest star – Laura Vandervoort, who kicks off a new recurring role on the CBS series.
Vandervoort of course played Kara/Supergirl on Smallville, and now fans will get to see her onscreen -- and battling -- Melissa Benoist, the current incarnation of the Girl of Steel.
I spoke to Vandervoort about what to expect from Indigo, the makeup process involved, working with Benoist and more.
Sony Files Patents for Glove Controller
Sony may be gearing up to release a new control option for PlayStation VR, as the company has filed three different patents for a glove controller.
According to Sony Computer Entertainment's trio of patent applications (via NeoGAF), the controller is designed to be used with a head-mounted display—presumably its upcoming virtual reality headset.
Look at Keanu’s Oscar Parody Cat Posters Right Meow
Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key's Keanu has four new posters that riff on some Oscars favorites, namely The Revenant, The Big Short, The Martian, and Mad Max: Fury Road.
Check them out in the slideshow below.
When Keanu (the little kitty) goes missing, Key and Peele, who play Clarence and Rell, must "infiltrate a a street gang" to get him back. Keanu, "the incredibly adorable kitten," is much too beloved, and unwittingly starts a gang war over his custody.
That's when Clarence and Rell "take the law into their own hands."
Keanu also stars Tiffany Haddish, Method Man, and Jason Mitchell. Directed by Peter Atencio and written by Peele and Alex Rubens, Keanu will debut in theaters April 29.
House of Cards: Season 5 Gets Two New Showrunners
House of Cards senior writers Melissa James Gibson and Frank Pugliese have been promoted to showrunners, as the popular Netflix original series continues into its fifth season without creator and original showrunner Beau Willimon.
"I welcome Frank and Melissa in their new roles on House of Cards and look forward to collaborating with them and our creative team on Season 5," executive producer and series star Kevin Spacey said in a statement.
Gibson and Pugliese have been with the series since 2014, having joined House of Cards during its third season. "We and the rest of the House of Cards writers look forward to the next chapter of the reign of Underwood," the pair of new showrunners said.
Dragon Front Is Like Hearthstone Come to Life
I found myself wanting to play more of Dragon Front even after my 45 minute demo – despite the fact that I’m not a table-top or collectible card game player and the extent of my CCG experience is playing Pokemon in elementary school. I didn’t expect to get sucked into the Dragon Front, the world’s first VR collectible card game, but the immersion of the VR helmet proved too compelling.
Dragon Front transports players onto a 4 by 4 battlefield with beautiful environments and animated soldiers. Think of it as Yu-Gi-Oh come to life, but without the ridiculous hairdo. Your goal is to break through your enemy’s defenses and destroy their castle. The cards you play range from soldiers, spells, buffs, and even vehicles. For example, planes have the ability to shoot over enemies. Each person also gets a “hero” that requires a lot of mana to unlock before your can play him or her on the battlefield. It’s a turn based game, so there are some lulls in the action while you wait for your opponent. But there's also anticipation as you wait for your enemy to reveal what he or she has in store for you.
Fear the Walking Dead: Season 2 Teaser Trailer
Fear the Walking Dead is returning on April 10th, and IGN has your exclusive look at the new teaser for Season 2.
Season 1 ended with the characters on a boat, attempting to escape the walker-infested Los Angeles. As you can see in this teaser, there's plenty of use made of a new aquatic/beach setting that definitely sets Fear TWD apart from The Walking Dead's usual visuals, as the spinoff/prequel moves production to Mexico this year.
When it returns on April 10th, Fear the Walking Dead will be joined by new episodes of Talking Dead, which will now air every week after new Fear episodes.
