AMC Orders Documentary About History of Comics
AMC is moving forward with a documentary about the history of comic books, tentatively titled Heroes and Villains.
The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman will executive produce the six-part documentary series along with Skybound Entertainment's David Alpert. Heroes and Villains will explore the comic book medium's "pop culture, politics, race, gender and sexuality," according to AMC.
“At the end of the day I am a comic fan first and foremost," said Kirkman. "I am a lover of the medium and the stories it enables people to tell. I’m excited to partner with AMC once again to bring the stories of some the most influential people in comics to a television audience.”
Each one-hour episode will go in-depth about the people and stories behind comic books, including the origins of famous superheroes and characters.

Preacher Creators Want to Make Something New on TV
When Preacher premieres on Sunday, the show's creators want it to feel different from anything you've seen before.
Preacher tells the story of a man named Jesse Custer who is grappling with trying to be a good preacher and live up to his father's shadow. When something happens to him that affects his sway over his congregation -- and all people -- his struggle becomes a bit more complicated.
Adapted from the Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon comic book series, Preacher is going to pick up earlier than when Volume 1 begins. But the show, developed for AMC by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Sam Catlin, still stays close to its roots.
"We don’t have to try that hard
because just turning Preacher into a TV show makes it unlike anything that’s been on TV before," Catlin told IGN. "Just to bring that world to life; the violence and the perversity and the comedy and the love story and all the different genres — crime drama, western drama, vampires — it’s just built in crazy. I’ve never seen anything like it, on TV or in a movie or pretty much anywhere."
Preacher Gets a New Series Premiere Trailer
AMC has unveiled a new series premiere trailer for Preacher, as the show is set to debut this Sunday, May 22.
The "Annville" video gives viewers a chance to briefly meet the Preacher cast of characters, such as Tulip O'Hare, Cassidy, Eugene "Arseface" Root and of course Jesse Custer. Watch the trailer below:
On top of the just-released trailer, IGN recently got an exclusive look at Preacher ahead of the premiere.
Preacher is an adaptation of the Garth Ennis comic series and stars Dominic Cooper, Ruth Negga and Joseph Gilgun. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are executive producers on the AMC show, with Sam Catlin serving as showrunner.
5 Darwyn Cooke Comics That Changed the Industry
The comic book world suffered a huge loss this past weekend with the untimely passing of Darwyn Cooke. Cooke was responsible for some of the most influential comics of the past 15 years, and by all accounts he inspired many of his colleagues to push themselves that much further.
In honor of Cooke's tremendous career, we're looking back at his five most memorable and influential works. Cooke may be gone, but these stories will remain to delight and inspire new generations of readers.
The '90s was a bad time for superhero comics for various reasons, one of them being the regrettable "Bad Girl" phase many books went through. You couldn't throw a rock without hitting a comic featuring at least one scantily clad, ridiculously proportioned femme fatale on the cover. Catwoman was hardly exempt from that problem.
