FIFA Really Has a Big Change This Year, Honestly

When I say a big new feature is coming to FIFA 17, you're probably sceptical. I imagine you expect it to be something like a new collision system informed by cutting-edge biomechanical research being conducted somewhere in Geneva. I can understand the cynicism – annual sports franchises thrive on a canny mix of innovation and preservation – but no, FIFA 17 really does have a big change this year. Honestly.

So how big of a change? Well, there’s a single-player campaign, complete with light RPG elements, dialogue wheels, branching storylines, and what’s more, it’s all built on the same engine as Dragon Age: Origins.

FIFA17_XB1_PS4_JOURNEY_HUNTER_CHELSEA_WM Meet Alex Hunter.

Star Wars Battlefront Sequel Developer Revealed

During a short video about EA’s upcoming Star Wars games today, EA Motive confirmed that it’s working on the next iteration of Star Wars Battlefront.

Previously, we heard that Motive -- led by former Assassin’s Creed producer Jade Raymond -- was assisting Uncharted creator Amy Hennig with a Star Wars game at Visceral. Whether the Motive team has switched projects or is working with DICE on Battlefront and Hennig’s game simultaneously is unclear.

Other footage shown during the video included our first look at Hennig’s third-person Star Wars title, mo-cap work from Respawn’s recently-announced Star Wars action-adventure game, a look at Battlefront’s upcoming Bespin DLC, a quick glimpse of the Battlefront PS VR Experience, and check-ins with Star Wars: The Old Republic and Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes.

EA Announces New Adorable Indie Game, Fe

At EA Play today, EA announced Fe, a new title from Swedish studio Zoink Games.

In Fe, you awaken as a young cub all alone in a forest. The game focuses on exploration, discovery, and learning the ecosystem of the world around you.

No release window or platforms were confirmed just yet.

Fe's announcement continues EA's trend of publishing smaller titles by independent developers, now called EA Originals, following EA’s reveal of Unraveled last year and its recent extended partnership with Unraveled developer Coldwood Interactive. The goal of Originals is to seek out smaller teams and games, and support them through development, marketing, and publishing. According to EA Studios Executive Vice President Patrick Soderlund, EA wants all of the profit to go back into the hands of the developers.

The Conjuring 2 Trounces Warcraft at Box Office

The Conjuring 2 was the clear victor at theaters this weekend, coming in first place at the box office with $40.4 million, making it the largest North American opening for a horror film since its predecessor's release in 2013.

In addition, New Line and Warner Bros.' sequel had the all-time biggest debut for a horror movie during the month of June, as noted by THR.

Unfortunately for Legendary, the same can't be said for its new video game-inspired fantasy film Warcraft, which debuted in second place to an underwhelming $24.4 million, falling far short of its massive $160 million budget.
