Adventure on Clover Island Pays Homage to Classic Platformers

Skylar & Plux: Adventure on Clover Island is angling to fill a void left by the absence of classic platformers over the past decade, Grip Digital's Petr Ciesarik tells me at E3. Developed by five students from Sweden as part of a student project, Grip Digital took on the game because they saw an opportunity to scratch an itch they -- and they assumed many other gamers -- would have.

"It's the time for us. Platformers are making a comeback," he told me. "We feel that there is a lack of these types of games today. They are missing in the last decade, so we want to come back with these types of games."

The core of Skylar & Plux is simple and straightforward, which is exactly what you want from a game that's intentionally following in the footsteps of Jak and Daxter and Ratchet & Clank. The controls feel familiar as you jump, flip, and slash your way through a colorful world evocative of something you would have found on the Nintendo 64 or PlayStation 2. Even the story is something Ciesarik describes as "classic" to the genre.

Forest Whitaker’s Star Wars: Rogue One Character Is From Clone Wars

The identity of Forest Whitaker's character in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has been revealed.

According to EW, the actor will play Saw Gerrera, the "shadowy freedom-fighter" who has a deep-rooted past in Star Wars history. In fact, his character first appeared as a young man (voiced by Andrew Kishino) fighting off a droid army on Onderon during the fifth season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

In the animated series, Gerrera also trained alongside his sister Steela in the episode "A War on Two Fronts" as part of an insurgent group led by Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ahsoka Tano. After losing much for his efforts, he develops a mistrust for any and all authority. As such, Gerrera will serve as an ally to the Rebels in Rogue One, but isn't truly a part of the squad.

Disney Boss on the Future of Indiana Jones

As Harrison Ford and Steven Spielberg gear up for Indiana Jones V, Disney Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Bob Iger has been discussing the franchise's future after that 2019 film.

He doesn't expect Indiana Jones to have a massive shared universe like Star Wars does, but Iger did say Disney is focused on creating more films in the series. "Right now, we're focused on a reboot, or a continuum and then a reboot of some sort," Iger added. Ford has already been confirmed for the fifth film—and it doesn't sound like the 73-year-old actor has been ruled out for films after that.

HBO Cancels Vinyl Despite Season 2 Renewal

Vinyl won't make it to HBO for its second season, after all.

Despite being renewed for Season 2 in February, the cable network has decided not to move forward with the show.

"After careful consideration, we have decided not to proceed with a second season of Vinyl," HBO said in a statement, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

"Obviously, this was not an easy decision. We have enormous respect for the creative team and cast for their hard work and passion on this project."

Game of Thrones Finale Photos Promise a Frey Return

Game of Thrones is closing in on its Season 6 finale, and the first official images of "The Winds of Winter" are a good preview of what's to come.

HBO released six photos of the episode, including one that shows Jaime Lannister meeting with Walder Frey. Are we going to finally get the Red Wedding justice we deserve?

Also pictured in the photos are Tyrion and Daenerys having a candid conversation, the High Sparrow putting Loras Tyrell on trial and Bran reclining under a tree (hey, at least he's back!).

HBO also released a promo for the next episode that gives a better sense of what's to come. The promo for the final episode shows the High Sparrow, Margaery, Tommen and Loras preparing for a trial before seven septons, Jon telling Sansa they need to trust one another, Walder Frey and Jaime Lannister sending "their regards," Davos confronting Melisandre and Jon over the burning of Shireen Baratheon and Tyrion telling Daenerys she's "in the great game now."

Why Miyamoto Didn’t Want to Call Zelda Wii U, NX Open World

At E3 2016 Nintendo showed off 1% of the vast world in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild but, back at an investor meeting in July 2014, Shigeru Miyamoto said he preferred not to call it an “open world” during development. IGN caught up with Nintendo’s lauded game designer and asked if could clarify his statement.

“I think within the game industry or the tech industry, there’s a tendency to want to name everything,” Miyamoto told IGN. “But I think it’s important for what we do that we don’t want to be dependent or swayed by the technology and what’s available now.”
