Universal Brings Iconic Horror to Life for Halloween

Halloween Horror Nights is always a popular event at Universal Studios Hollywood, filled with mazes based on popular horror films and TV series – but 2016 is an especially notable year. During an early walk-thru of a couple of mazes before the event opens on Friday, September 16th, Creative Director John Murdy noted, “We have such a good lineup this year… Such a stellar lineup.”

That lineup includes mazes based on The Exorcist, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Freddy vs. Jason, Halloween, Krampus and American Horror Story – plus the Terror Tram attraction, designed this year by Eli Roth. Then there are the “Scare Zones” as you walk through the park, all of which are based around The Purge. And, of course, The Walking Dead has a permanent attraction at Universal Studios Hollywood now, which will be open during Horror Nights.

11 Craziest Changes in DC’s Injustice Universe

Of the many alternate universes that make up DC's vast multiverse, few are as fascinating as the world of Injustice: Gods Among Us. This is a universe that started out very much like the regular DCU, but took a serious left turn right about the time Superman killed the Joker and became an iron-fisted dictator. While the original Injustice video game showed what happened when the Justice League crossed dimensions to overthrow this evil Superman, the prequel comic has spent years fleshing out the Injustice universe and exploring Superman's evolution from hero to tyrant. And because all bets are off in this universe, writers like Tom Taylor and Brian Buccellato have been able to introduce some pretty fascinating twists to familiar DC characters and concepts.

Destiny: Rise of Iron PVP Impresssions

Two of the biggest improvements coming with Rise of Iron’s release are the inclusion of private matches and a new PVP mode for the Crucible called Supremacy. Private matches are going to allow players to create their own custom matches where they can pick the map, game mode, and tweak certain modifiers like the ability to turn light level on or off. Private matches also open up Destiny to a new market: competitive tournaments hosted in a controlled environment (the first of which will be hosted by Major League Gaming). It’s going to be a powerful tool that will be used by everyone from event organizers with prize pools at stake, to groups of friends looking for some competition. Taken King owners will also have access to private matches, though only for the content included in that release. So if you don’t feel like upgrading to Rise of Iron just yet you won't be completely left out of the fun. If you want to try out some private matches for yourself, all current-gen Destiny players should have access to the new option at 11am PT today.

Sonic Mania Collector’s Edition Hits All the Nostalgia Notes

Sonic Mania's newly revealed collector's edition is a beautiful dream of retro-fueled Sonic nostalgia.

The $70 edition includes a 12-inch classic Sonic statue set atop a SEGA Genesis base. The base has a power switch which, when activated, plays the classic "SEGA!" start up sound from the days when Sonic vs. Mario rivalry was the video game version of hip-hop's East Coast/West Coast beef.

Tacoma’s Opening is Smart, Beautiful, and Spooky

The opening minutes of Tacoma build upon the core tenets of Gone Home in a smart, effective, and fantastic way. The second game from developer Fullbright, Tacoma keeps the intimate storytelling of its predecessor, but expands the scope of its cast, as well as the manner in which you discover the threads of the game’s events.

Tacoma begins with a familiar problem: three days ago, something bad happened aboard a space station, and its crew of six are nowhere to be found. It’s your job to explore the abandoned vessel and piece together what went wrong, how the crew dealt with it, and where they are now. Like Gone Home, it's equal parts mysterious, spooky, and melancholic.
