What’s the Japanese Indie Scene Like?

The growth of the indie scene, and the importance of indie games, has been one of the defining facets of the games industry over the last ten years. The explosion of digital distribution, a raft of new platforms (hello Steam, hello App Store!) and a lowering of the general barrier to entry for making games have all been factors, and it’s made for some exciting – and entirely novel – gaming experiences.

When I think about my favourite indie games, however, very few of them are Japanese. I think about games like Braid, The Stanley Parable, Journey, Fez, Rogue Legacy and Papers, Please… and they’re just the tip of an absolutely enormous iceberg. When I think about Japanese indies, on the other hand, far fewer games come to mind.

TWD: How Ezekiel’s Introduction Compares to the Comics

Full spoilers for The Walking Dead's latest episode, "The Well," and for the comics continue below.

Welcome to the court of King Ezekiel, ruler of the Kingdom! It was with much pomp and circumstance that viewers -- and Carol -- were introduced to the, ahem, flamboyant leader of the horseback-riding warriors seen in the back half of Season 6.

Though the context and characters differed in several big, notable ways, the show actually did a fairly accurate job introducing Ezekiel the same way he was introduced in the comics. Click through the below gallery by using the arrows to see how Ezekiel's introduction in the TV show compares to Robert Kirkman's comics.

AHS Will Do a Murder House / Coven Crossover Season

Anthology horror series American Horror Story is crossing over with itself.

Speaking at EW's PopFest Sunday, AMS creator Ryan Murphy said that the team is planning a season where Murder House (S1) crosses over with Coven (S3).

“We do know what we’re going to do,” Murphy said at the LA event. “It’s not going to be next season, but we are going to do a season that’s a crossover between Murder House and Coven together, which is very bizarre.”

Considering the series is known for using the same actors as different characters in different timelines, this will definitely be in an interesting prospect.

Box Office: Inferno a Blockbuster Overseas, Bombs at Home

Inferno, the third entry in Ron Howard's Da Vinci Code film series, bombed at the domestic box office, earning an estimated $15 million during its opening weekend.

The film, which stars Tom Hanks and Felicity Jones, was expected to claim the top spot at the box office with somewhere between $20 million to $30 million during its opening weekend, THR reports. However, it was eclipsed by Tyler Perry's Boo! A Madea Halloween, which placed first with a second-weekend haul of $16.7 million.

Fortunately for Sony, Inferno fared much better overseas, having now earned approximately $132.9 million since its international debut earlier this month. It topped the charts during its opening weekend in China with $13.3 million.

According to Marvel parent company Disney, the film is approximately 50 percent ahead of Ant-Man, 37 percent ahead of Guardians of the Galaxy and 23 percent ahead of Captain America: Winter Soldier.

13 Pages That Made Steve Dillon a Comic Book Legend

The comic book industry suffered another huge loss this year with the passing of artist Steve Dillon. Dillon left a huge mark on comics thanks to his work on books like Hellblazer, Preacher, Wolverine: Origins and multiple volumes of The Punisher. From the beginning, Dillon set himself apart from the crowd thanks to a unique ability to blend horrific displays of violence, dark humor and raw pathos together. Dillon knew how to shock his readers, but more importantly, he was able to craft characters that lived, breathed and became like close friends to the reader.

As a tribute to Dillon, we're taking a look back at some of the most striking and distinctive pages the artist produced in his career. These pages barely scratch the surface of what the prolific artist accomplished in his career, but all serve as a perfect showcase of what made Dillon such a unique and talented artist.
