A Cure for Wellness or a Cure for Franchise Filmmaking?
Gore Verbinski has directed a lot of successful movies, including the horror remake The Ring, the animated Rango, and the first three Pirates of the Caribbean films. He’s also had some films that haven’t quite worked out, including most recently The Lone Ranger, which received a critical and box-office drubbing when it was released in 2013. But now Verbinski is back with A Cure for Wellness, which stars Dane DeHaan as an up-and-coming business exec who is sent on a mission to the Swiss Alps. There he must retrieve his missing CEO, who has retreated to a mysterious spa… a “wellness” facility that DeHaan soon finds himself trapped in as well.
I recently had the chance to watch the first act of A Cure for Wellness and then spoke to Verbinski about the film, his frequent genre-hopping, being “not well,” and what it was like to have to bounce back from The Lone Ranger. Read on for our full chat below.
Street Fighter 5’s Second Season Starts Today
Street Fighter 5’s second season is available now.
Season Two brings with it the addition of Akuma, as well as premium battle and nostalgia costumes. There’s also a season pass available which nets you Akuma and five other characters throughout the year, premium costumes, and a PS4 theme.
Capcom also released a 92-page PDF detailing a massive number of new balance changes. Of note, invincible moves have changed due to characters without them performing worse than characters with, and normal throws have been altered to avoid loop throws.
One of the main reasons for the changes is due to characters who could attack more frequently had a larger reach, meaning they became stronger than others, and thus, unbalanced. Thanks, Eurogamer.

How Rogue One Included a Couple of Surprising Cameos
Warning: spoilers for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story ahead.
Rogue One director Gareth Edwards went through a lot effort to include two particular cameos in the film.
In the new film, Garven Dreis/Red Leader (the late Drewe Henley) and Jon Vander/Gold Leader (Angus MacInnes) show up looking exactly like they did nearly 40 years ago in the original Star Wars. While speaking to RadioTimes, Edwards revealed that he was able to pull these scenes off by finding unused footage from Star Wars discovered in the archives at Skywalker Ranch.
Explained Edwards, "We’re walking around, and doing all the cool things and looking at the Millennium Falcon and trying on Han Solo’s jacket and things like that, in the back at the bottom was all these cans of film. And we said ‘what are they?’ and they said ‘Oh, it’s Star Wars.’"
Civil War Comics Writer Criticizes Captain America Movie
Mark Millar, the writer behind Marvel's Civil War comic book miniseries, has come forward to share his thoughts on the MCU film adaptation, highlighting a few issues he had with the Captain America-focused movie.
"Civil War had a good opening twenty mins, but then I honestly can't remember what the movie was about," Millar said in a post on his blog Millarworld (via TheWrap), citing a lack of levity as one of his chief complaints with the film.
"It's interesting the Russos have a background in comedy because it's really missing in these otherwise well-made pictures and very, very missed," he wrote. "I really hope this bleakness doesn't extend into their two Avengers pictures because what made that first Avengers work was the light as well as shade and I'll be sad if that's all lost like it was in this picture."
