How Star Wars Rebels Spaceships Ended Up in Rogue One
Star Wars Rebels spaceships, like the iconic Ghost, didn't show up in Rogue One because of a Disney mandate. Instead, the crossover happened because of friendly conversations at Lucasfilm.
Speaking with io9, Rogue One animation supervisor Hal Hickel opened up about the cameos from the Disney XD series. “You see the film and think it’s a kind of corporate synergy,” he said.
“But really it’s just casual and friendly contact between folks at Lucasfilm working on different aspects of the Star Wars universe and going, ‘This would be super cool. Can we put your ship in our movie?’”
Microsoft Confirms Scalebound is Cancelled
As rumors earlier today suggested, Microsoft has confirmed to IGN that development on Scalebound has ceased.
A Microsoft representative provided the following statement to IGN:
“After careful deliberation, Microsoft Studios has come to the decision to end production for Scalebound. We’re working hard to deliver an amazing lineup of games to our fans this year, including Halo Wars 2, Crackdown 3, State of Decay 2, Sea of Thieves and other great experiences.”
Microsoft further pointed to a recent post on its official site about its additional plans for 2017.
Ghost in the Shell: Original Anime Film Returning to Theaters
The Ghost in the Shell anime movie will return to 110 theaters for two days in February. Lionsgate and Funimation Films are behind the silver screen revival, obviously building off the lead-up to Paramount's Ghost in the Shell live-action movie starring Scarlett Johansson.
The anime feature comes back February 7 and 8 in the United States. The live-action Ghost in the Shell releases March 31, and the movie shares a lot in common with the 1995 anime film. In fact, the new Ghost in the Shell film will draw inspiration from the entire franchise.
First Promos for Netflix’s Cannibalism Comedy
Netflix has released the first two promos for its offbeat new comedy series Santa Clarita Diet, starring Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant.
The promos start out as normal advertisements for what seems to be a regular diet for those looking to quickly lose some weight. But, as you watch on you'll quickly find out that there's some sinister happening. Because as it turns out, the titular diet is in fact cannibalism.
Netflix first announced the series last year, but only revealed the horror twist just a few days ago. The story follows Sheila Hammond (Barrymore) and her husband Joe (Olyphant), as Sheila slowly begins to crave humans after she dies in the first episode. This, of course, throws the couple's lives upside down, who're realtors living in the Los Angeles suburb of Santa Clarita.
Scalebound Reportedly In Trouble, Could Be Canceled
Scalebound is reportedly in trouble and may be canceled.
Kotaku has heard from "several sources" that the action title from developer PlatinumGames has been in development trouble for quite a while and may ultimately be scrapped. The outlet also noticed that Microsoft has pulled the official page for Scalebound from the Xbox website.
An official announcement regarding the game's status is expected to be made in the near future, as Microsoft provided Kotaku with the following statement: "We'll have more to share on Scalebound soon."
Scalebound was announced at E3 2014 as an Xbox One exclusive. During Microsoft's press conference at last year's Electronic Entertainment Expo, it was revealed that Scalebound would also release on PC as part of the Xbox Play Anywhere initiative.
How Agents of SHIELD’s L.M.D.s Will Differ from Ultron
Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD returns from winter break Tuesday with a new episode called “Broken Promises” and kicks off the next big arc subtitled “L.M.D.” With the Ghost Rider arc completed (or at least brought to somewhat of a conclusion for now), Aida will step up as the new main threat of the show.
Warning: this article contains full spoilers for Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD!
To recap, the last episode ended with the revelation that May has been replaced with an L.M.D. The real May is imprisoned in Radcliffe’s lab. When a SHIELD agent discovered her there while on an errand, Aida snapped his neck in order to keep the May switcheroo a secret. Meanwhile, L.M.D. May was seen in SHIELD HQ having a drink with Coulson, an unusually warm act for the notoriously cold May.
Rogue One Now Ranks Among Top 10 Highest Grossing Domestic Movies
While Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was unseated as the No. 1 movie at the box office this weekend, the Star Wars movie continues to be a major success as it has now become one of the top 10 domestic highest grossing films of all time.
Rogue One is now the eighth most successful film at the domestic box office, having made an estimated $477,273,354 as of January 8. Unadjusted for inflation, that places it above both the original Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope and Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace, according to Box Office Mojo. (Adjusted for inflation, Rogue One would be the 72nd highest grossing domestic film of all time, while A New Hope is the second highest.)
