Limbo, Inside Developer Shows Concept Art From Next Game

Playdead has shown off the first piece of concept art from its untitled next game.

The Limbo and Inside developer took to Twitter to show off some familiarly bleak, muted imagery:

There's a good reason to be excited for this - Limbo is considered part of the birth of the modern indie movement, while last year's Inside garnered a 10/10 review and was IGN's runner-up for game of the year.

IGN UK Podcast #367: The Questions No One’s Asking About The Switch

Last week, we could only speculate on everything the Switch had in store. This week, we've left sticky fingerprints across all 6.2inches of its screen, and a lot of the questions about it have already been answered on IGN.

But Gav, Alysia and Joe are here to ask the questions that no one else is asking - perhaps for good reason. Plus, a new Logan trailer has just been released for your eyeballs, and Gav has another set of films prepped for the return of Keyword Countdown proper.

Nintendo Switch Will Have Miis, But They Won’t Be Mandatory

Nintendo will be updating Miis for the new generation, but they won't remain a key part of using the console.

On Wii, Wii U and 3DS, Miis were a compulsory part of creating a user profile, but thanks to Kotaku we know that won't be the case on Switch.

"Mii characters can be used to represent a user profile, but are not required," said a Nintendo spokesperson. "Users also have the option to choose a profile picture from an included library of Nintendo character images. Mii characters can still be used in games if developers choose to include them."

Nintendo also confirmed that what was the Mii Maker app is now a part of the console's system settings, and that Wii U and 3DS Miis can be transferred to the new console via an Amiibo figure.

Destiny Won’t Have a Valentine’s Day Event This Year

Bungie has confirmed that Destiny's Valentine's event, Crimson Days, will not take place this year.

On the Bungie blog, community manager DeeJ opened the latest post by saying, "First things first: Crimson Days will not be making a return this year. We enjoyed adding some gunfire to your date night, but we have other plans. Instead, we’re dedicating our efforts to delivering different things for you to play."

Instead, it seems Bungie has other early-year plans: "

next content update is taking shape. We’re super excited to tell you about it – but not so excited that we’ll jump the gun. There will come a time when we’ll take a seat on our streaming set to talk about how we’ll spend the springtime together. That moment will come closer to the thaw."

The Division’s Next Expansion Adds a Team-Based PvP Mode

Details on the third expansion for Tom Clancy's The Division have been revealed.

Dubbed Expansion III: Last Stand, the next update for Ubisoft's popular third-person shooter adds a "dedicated, separate player combat arena" that provides a more structured way to face off against your friends in PVP than the more open-ended style of play the Dark Zone offers.

As detailed in a post on the The Division's official site, "Last Stand is session based and features clear objectives and win conditions, while still incorporating aspects of the Dark Zone such as PvE enemies and Landmarks."

Hitman Gets HDR Support at the End of This Month

Io Interactive has confirmed today that the first season of Hitman will support High Dynamic Range (HDR) from January 31, 2017.

The update will coincide with the launch of the retail disc version of the 2016 stealth ’em up.

“As an example, think of 47 in a dark room looking out a bright window,” explains Io programmer Anders Wang Kristensen. “Without HDR you would not be able make out what's outside, whereas with HDR you can simultaneously see details inside the room and outside the window.”

“Another extreme example is the sun. Without HDR we could not render the sun brighter than a white piece of paper, so we had to ‘simulate’ the sun being blinding. With HDR we can draw the sun several times brighter, so that it is actually close to being blinding, just like in real life.”

Nintendo Considering Streaming Services on Switch

Nintendo has confirmed that while video streaming services will not be on Switch at launch, they haven’t been ruled out for the future.

A Nintendo representative provided the following statement to IGN:

"All of our efforts have gone toward making the Nintendo Switch system an amazing dedicated video game platform, so it will not support any video-streaming services at launch. However, support for video-streaming services is being considered for a future update."

We reached out to Netflix and Twitch about apps on Switch but received no comment.

Back in 2012, video streaming apps including Netflix, YouTube, Hulu and Amazon were planned for Wii U’s release but were delayed into the months after launch. Video apps including Hulu, Netflix, and YouTube also came to 3DS following its launch.
