Blizzard to Begin Banning Overwatch XP Farmers

Overwatch's new custom game browser has brought a range of wacky game types to mix up the standard formula, but some players are abusing the system.

Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan took to the Overwatch forums yesterday to put his foot down on farming experience while inactive in custom games. "It’s very disappointing to us that players abused the system to gain experience while inactive," he wrote. "As some of you have noticed, Skirmish in Custom Game no longer rewards experience. Also, the AFK timer is now in place in Skirmish mode (in Custom Game only)."

Before the changes, players could simply leave the game running while skirmishing, which is essentially a team deathmatch mode that runs while the server is waiting to reach capacity. Normally an AFK timer would kick you out if you remained idle for too long, but this wasn't active in Skirmish, so once the match eventually ended, you would gain experience for doing nothing.

Is Middle-earth: Shadow of War Going to Let Us Import Saves?

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor's unique nemesis system helped craft stories outside of the main plot line. You had to kill your arch-enemy in the original game, but could your own personal big bad orc be making an appearance in Middle-earth: Shadow of War anyway?

In an interview with GamesRadar, developer Monolith was strangely cagey on the matter. When the subject of transferring old save data came up, Monolith Productions creative vice president Michael de Plater had to leave the room to check whether he was allowed to talk about it yet. He apparently was not.

The Final BoxBoy! Game Is Coming West

Bye-Bye BoxBoy! is going to be launching on the Nintendo eShop for 3DS in Europe on March 23 for £4.49 / €5. So far, no US date or price has been announced, but you can assume it's coming.

Main character Qbby is returning for "one last adventure" in the game series developed by HAL Laboratory, creators of the Kirby series. The games are 2D side-scrolling puzzle-platformers, where Qbby gets round obstacles by creating boxes out of thin air.

Not only is Bye-Bye BoxBoy! Qbby's last adventure, it's also his biggest. There are over 180 levels spanning four planets, and there are also five unlockable Challenge Worlds which impose restrictions on the normal game mechanics.

On each planet in the main game, Qbby will encounter a Qbaby, and if you guide them to safety Qbby will gain extra box types to create.

The Darwin Project: Hunger Games Meets Twitch

Though it's a ways out, the base-level pitch of The Darwin Project shows that the game has the potential to be something really cool and really special. The first game by Scavengers Studios, composed of folks who’ve been making AAA and indie games for quite a while, Darwin takes a survival core of something like Rust or Don't Starve, adds in asymmetrical competitive multiplayer, mixes it with the themes of the fiction of Battle Royale and Hunger Games, and then tosses all of it on its head with the introduction of ostensibly a Dungeon Master, as well as audience participation.

Yep, I agree, all of that sounds cool.

The game takes place in the Northern Canadian Rockies in a world on the verge of an impending ice age. From this, a science experiment/reality TV series is formed that tosses inmates in the frozen tundra, gives them a slim chance at freedom, and is ultimately there to to see how long they can survive both the elements, and each other. Most players assume the role of one of the seven inmates in a match, and have to spend their time gathering resources, managing things like warmth and hunger, and ultimately planning for how they're going to kill their opponents once they run across them on the play field. Weapons and traps play a big role, and this is all presented form a third-person perspective with visuals similar to the aesthetic of something like Overwatch.
