Doom, Fallout 4 VR Experiences Detailed

Doom VFR and Fallout 4 VR have received a slew of new details at Bethesda's E3 2017 presentation.

Now called Doom VFR, the virtual reality-take on Id's shooter seems to not be the full game, but rather a series of activities set throughout the action-horror world. The footage of Doom VFR showcased puzzle-solving using mechanical arms, exploring a derelict space station using node-based movement, and of course, blasting a whole mess of hellish beasts away with all sorts of weapons.

Fallout 4, on the other hand, is a full version of Bethesda's massive open-world game available in VR. It's coming out later this year in October on HTC Vive. However, Bethesda hasn't clarified whether Doom VFR is only coming to Vive, or whether it will also release on Oculus.

Xbox One Original Xbox Backwards Compatibility Detailed

During today's Xbox E3 press conference, Microsoft announced that backwards compatibility for original Xbox games will  come to Xbox One later this year, and Head of Xbox Phil Spencer has since elaborated on the forthcoming support.

"We can support the discs, which was actually a technically achievement for the team. I didn't think we were going to get there," Spencer told IGN. "But I also know a lot of people can't find those discs anymore, so we will definitely make sure they are available digitally for people," he added.

While Spencer didn't provide as pricing details for digital versions of original Xbox games, he did mention Microsoft's new subscription service Xbox Game Pass, noting it "could be a great place to put those games."

Assassin’s Creed Origins: All Gameplay, News, Trailers

Ubisoft first announced Assassin’s Creed Origins in June 2017. The game is scheduled to launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on October 27, 2017.

Ubisoft had been seeing diminishing returns on the annualized Assassin’s Creed franchise in recent years. That’s why the company decided not to release a new installment in 2016 in order to retool what needed fixing. The result is Assassin’s Creed Origins, a game that brings the series to ancient Egypt. If you’re wondering what Origins is about, we’ve gathered all of the news, trailers, and previews right here to clue you in.

We may have first heard about the new Assassin's Creed game from leaks (a common thing for the series), but oddly enough, it wasn’t Ubisoft who officially revealed Assassin’s Creed Origins to the world. It was Microsoft. Our first glimpse of the game came during Microsoft’s E3 2017 presentation.

Xbox One X Alternate Names Revealed

While Microsoft ultimately decided to call its new console Xbox One X, other names were considered and Head of Xbox Phil Spencer shared with IGN a few of those alternate names.

"We obviously looked at 'Elite,' but we've called one of our Xbox One consoles 'Elite' already," Spencer explained, going on to note that "'S' was obviously used already."

He also spoke to the console's codename 'Scorpio' and addressed why that branding didn't carry over to the final name. "I know a lot of people wanted us to call it 'Scorpio'—Xbox One Scorpio," he said, adding, "that's a hard one to get the trademark for."

When asked if Microsoft ever considered dropping the 'One' from the console's name, Spencer replied, "No, because we have a family of consoles. Because we know different price points are important, and we know that for many customers, maybe customers who haven't jumped into this generation yet, the Xbox One S is a great console for them."
