How Far Cry 5 Evolves the Formula in Great Ways

In its 13-year history, the Far Cry series has always excelled at presenting players with complex problems, pointing us towards an arsenal of weapons, abilities, and systems at our disposal, and letting us have the freedom to create our own insane stories. This is only amplified in Far Cry 5 thanks to denser environments, more player tools, and the fantastic new Guns for Hire system.

We went hands-on with a mission that involved liberating a small town from its occupiers, the Project at Eden’s Gate – you know, that doomsday cult that got the internet all in a fuss after the initial reveal trailer. Though it was a relatively short demo, the meat of it came in choosing one of three different Guns for Hire as your partner, which in turn, completely changed how the encounter unfolded.

South Park: The Fractured But Whole is Cruder and More Complex

South Park: The Fractured But Whole was the only game shown off at Ubisoft's E3 2016 conference that still isn't out. But with its October release date just around the corner, the developer brought the RPG back to E3 this year, and with it, a brand-new demo that showed off the game's humor, exploration, and new battle system.

We got to spend about 20 minutes hands-on with The Fractured But Whole. Here's what we thought.

I don’t know how to tell you about what I played of South Park: The Fractured But Whole at E3 this year without using words that have likely never been seen on IGN before. There’s a rhythm-based, lapdance mini-game in which you have to twerk and tap a button to fart on a man’s lap simultaneously, and that’s one of the least vulgar parts. In my opinion, that makes it a delightfully authentic-feeling follow up to an already on-point South Park game.

Super Mario Odyssey Hands-On Preview

Travel is said to broaden the mind. But when you’re Mario, it’s liable to transform you into a T-rex, a tank, a ball of electricity or fire, and sometimes a weird squat plant creature with telescopic vegetation legs. (I’ll try to explain that one later.)

Super Mario Odyssey has been referred to as Mario’s return to the sandbox, a successor to Mario 64 and Sunshine. But 'sandbox' isn’t the right word, says Nintendo. In Japan, they use the word hakoniwa, a form of miniature gardening. The idea is to create an intricate and stylised landscape, where every element is placed with care and though. This is the philosophy shaping Odyssey’s Kingdoms. So while a single area isn’t huge – you can triple-jump your way across New Donk City in a few minutes – thanks to this concentrated, considered design, it feels far bigger.
