GTA Modding Tool OpenIV Appears to Be Back in Development
Popular Grand Theft Auto modding tool OpenIV may be back in business, following a controversial cease and desist order from GTA publisher Take-Two.
PC Gamer reports that, after much contention from fans regarding the order, OpenIV has seen a small update this week, despite the creators saying that development on the tool had been discontinued.
This potentially speaks to the new stance that Take-Two is tentatively agreeing to allow single player mods, meaning OpenIV could be seen as a legitimate tool.
Final Fantasy XV: Big Announcements to Come at Gamescom
The team behind Final Fantasy XV has confirmed that it has big plans for the game, to be announced at this year's Gamescom.
Gematsu reports that during the Japanese E3 2017 Recap Active Time Report stream, Square Enix marketing manager Akio Ofuji revealed that the company is planning "to do all sorts of things on a large scale this summer.”
This was backed up by game director Hajime Tabata, who said: “That’s right. We’ve been extremely busy. We have to be sure to have some good announcements in the summer
I want to put out some good news during Gamescom.”
Latest Overwatch Patch Namechecks New Hero and Event
The latest update to Overwatch's public test servers appears to be internally referred to as "Doomfist / Summer Games", referencing a long-rumored new hero and the return of the game's first major event.
Following the PTR's latest update, some players experienced crashes when using its new highlight saving feature. According to users on Reddit and the Overwatch forum, subsequent crash logs refer to the current version of the game as "1.13.0.0 Doomfist / Summer Games". The reference has subsequently been removed from the logs.
Titanfall 2 Free DLC Will Feature New Maps
Titanfall 2's latest free DLC adds a game-changing feature when it releases June 27 for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One.
According to Respawn's latest blog post, the new add-on content, titled The War Games, finally let pilots equip a third weapon slot.
In addition to the standard primary and secondary weapon slots, players can also now bring an anti-titan weapon onto the battlefield. Meaning, you will no longer have to choose between a pistol or an anti-titan item.
The War Games also features two new maps, the first of which is also called War Games. It's a simulated battlezone featuring multistory buildings and open tank garage facilities for pilot battles, as well as wide-open city streets for titan combat.
Nintendo on Animal Crossing Mobile and More
Nintendo of America president Reggie Fil-Aimé revealed why Animal Crossing Mobile was left out of E3, as well as why Nintendo shut down AM2R, and more on what's coming for Nintendo Switch.
When interviewed by Waypoint, the Nintendo Boss confirmed Nintendo's intentions when going into this year's E3 Spotlight, saying Nintendo felt fans "wanted to understand more about Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Switch proposition."
He also cited this as the reason games such as Animal Crossing Mobile were not present at the conference saying that "When it comes to mobile, we are just not sure if E3 is the place for us to be talking about mobile."
Transformers 5 Has Franchise’s Lowest Opening Weekend
It seems like domestic audiences may have tired of Michael Bay's Transformers movies. The fifth film in the series, Transformers: The Last Knight, had a lackluster opening weekend at the North American box office, only making $45.3 million from Friday-Sunday. The Michael Bay-directed movie has earned $69.1 million since opening Wednesday.
To put that into perspective, the second lowest-grossing opening weekend for a Transformers film was the very first one in the Michael Bay series. That movie grossed $70.5 million in its opening weekend, but that was also a decade ago. When you adjust for inflation, The Last Knight's opening weekend becomes just that much more lackluster.
Confirmed: Venom, Silver & Black Separate From the MCU
There has been some confusion, based on past interview comments from the producers of Spider-Man: Homecoming, as to whether Sony Pictures' Spidey spin-off films Venom and Silver & Black (based on Black Cat and Silver Sable) are part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the same way as Tom Holland's Spider-Man is. I spoke on the phone today with one of the producers of those spin-off films as well as Homecoming, Amy Pascal, who set the record straight regarding specifically Venom and Silver & Black's place, if any, in the MCU.

Opinion: I’m Worried About Marvel’s Legacy Relaunch
Marvel Comics has been following a pretty clear pattern in recent years. First, they ring in the summer with a major crossover event, one that wraps with major status quo changes for the Marvel Universe. Those changes feed into the company's big, annual relaunch, as old books are cycled out and new ones are created in order to offer readers fresh #1 issues and new jumping-on points. This predictable cycle has helped provide regular boosts to Marvel's sales figures, though there are also clear signs that the company is facing diminishing returns with each new relaunch.
The hope is that Marvel's 2017 relaunch, Marvel Legacy, will be different. Much like DC did with Rebirth last year, Marvel is using Legacy as a way of refocusing their attention on their core characters and generally taking a more "back to basics" approach. That's all fine and well, but I'm not optimistic that Legacy will be able to do for Marvel what Rebirth has done for DC. Yesterday's underwhelming reveal of the 52 Marvel Legacy books suggested that it's going to be business as usual for Marvel.
