Dragon Quest XI Sells 2 Million Copies In Two Days In Japan
During its first two days of release in Japan, the next iteration of the popular JRPG series Dragon Quest XI sold over 2 million copies.
Kotaku reports (via Famitsu) that the Square Enix title - which released in Japan last Saturday - has sold a total of 2,080,806 copies across the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS platforms.
The 3DS picked up over half of the sales with 1,130,468 copies sold at retail while 950,338 copies were sold for the PS4 which is still no small number. More impressively is that digital sales have not been taken into account for these totals, and the Switch version of the game hasn't yet been released.

No Toyota Street Cars for Forza Motorsport 7
Turn 10 has unveiled its third salvo of confirmed cars for Forza Motorsport 7. This week’s theme is Japanese models and the list features JDM icons from the ’70s to the present day. None of the cars in today’s announcement are new the series but there are several that haven’t been seen in a Forza game since Forza Horizon 2 or Forza Motorsport 4.
The disappointing news, however, is that no Toyota production vehicles will be present in Forza Motorsport 7 (aside from the bespoke 2007 Toyota Hilux famous for carrying the former hosts of Top Gear to the North Pole, which comes via Icelandic engineering company Arctic Trucks). Previous Forza games have included cult Toyotas from the '70s, '80s, and '90s, including various Celicas and Supras. A great round-up of the memorable Toyotas featured in Forza Horizon 3 can be read on the Forza website.
Dark Universe’s Alex Kurtzman May Leave the Franchise
The future of The Mummy director Alex Kurtzman's involvement with Universal's shared monsters Dark Universe franchise is in doubt.
When IGN asked Kurtzman during the Television Critics Association press tour (where Kurtzman is promoting Star Trek: Discovery) if he is still involved in the Dark Universe in the wake of The Mummy, Kurtzman said he wasn't sure.
"You know the truth is, I don't know. I really don't know," Kurtzman told IGN. "I haven't really decided. Is the honest answer."
Kurtzman directed this year's action horror flick The Mummy, which opened to poor domestic box office and critical response. He is still currently slated to produce 2019's The Bride of Frankenstein, as well as subsequent entries featuring the Creature from the Black Lagoon, the Invisible Man, Van Helsing, and more.
What’s Canon and What’s Not in Star Trek: Discovery
Star Trek: Discovery might be diving into a period that hasn't been thoroughly explored in Star Trek lore, but its creators are very cognizant of what canon they can and can't stay true to.
"We're mostly pretty much an object that takes its reference from the other shows," executive producer Akiva Goldsman said at the 2017 TV Critics' Association summer press tour. "Mostly what we're doing is we're trying to look at all the shows, including Enterprise, as canon, and trying to be very sensitive to all the interesting boundaries that exist. The number of things that are seen for the first time in Enterprise will blow your brain. ... That's sort of a great game to be able to navigate."
