NBA Live 18 Demo Out Tomorrow

A demo for NBA Live 18 will launch tomorrow ahead of its PlayStation 4 and Xbox One launch on September 15.

Players will get to try out The Rise, the prologue to the game's new single-player career mode The One. You'll create your own basketball player and improve his position in the NBA draft by going through a few developmental showcases.

All progress made in The Rise will carry over to the full game. The same goes for the demo's specially-timed Live Events, which are activities that, when competed, unlock different rewards. The free demo will also feature a Play Now experience between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors.

Additionally, EA announced that Houston Rockets superstar James Harden will be NBA Live 18's cover athlete. "NBA Live 18 is all about creating your own identity and making your mark on the league, and I can definitely relate to that," said Harden. "If anybody knows about creativity it's me."

Moons of Madness: What if Firewatch Went Horror?

Can you explore mental illness on Mars? That’s what Rock Pocket Games hope to do in their upcoming first-person horror game Moons of Madness.

While I can’t say how much Moons of Madness succeeds on that front based on my brief 20-minute demo, its surreal tale of isolation and familial troubles – set against a hard sci-fi backdrop with some Lovecraftian inspirations mixed in for good measure – serves as an interesting foundation so far.

environment

What stands out to me almost immediately during my demo of Moons of Madness are the problem-solving elements. More recent first-person horror games like Outlast 2 and Layers of Fear have largely ditched puzzles — a survival horror staple that I dearly miss — in favor of a haunted house-style approach. It’s possible to strike a balance between hopping from one scripted event to the next and trying to think straight enough to solve problems in the face of looming danger, and Moons of Madness seems to be on that path.

For Honor: Every Highlander and Gladiator Execution and Emote

The third season of For Honor, dubbed Grudge and Glory, hits PC and Consoles on August 15.

In addition to kicking off Season 3 of the persistent faction war, Grudge and Glory will be the biggest biggest season For Honor has ever done. Starting with a pair of new heroes – The Vikings Highlander and the Knights Gladiator – the patch also adds two new maps with deadly hazards, a new Legendary gear rating, and new ranking modes to cut your teeth on – along with your enemies.

The new heroes are available on patch day for season pass holders, and available for players without the season pass one week later – which is August 22, for those keeping score. But before you can get your hands on the Gladiator and Highlander you can see every execution and emote these warriors are bringing to to the battlefield.

Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen Gets PS4, Xbox One Release Date

Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen is coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on October 3, Capcom announced today.

The PS4 and Xbox One port of Capcom's action RPG comes with the original Dragon's Dogma game along with all the content from its expansion, Dark Arisen.

Dragon's Dogma was originally released in 2012. In IGN's review, we lauded the game's combat but felt the overall experience was "unfinished, with technical problems that often spoil things."

The Dark Arisen re-release, which we scored a 7.9, came nearly a year later in 2013, bringing with it an extra 15 hours of new late game content and plenty of tweaks.

Tales from the Borderlands Devs Want Their Characters in Borderlands 3

Telltale's Tales from the Borderlands did an excellent job re-purposing Gearbox's world and characters in an entirely new context. It turns out the developers behind the narrative adventure hoped (and still hope) that Gearbox might, in return, do the same with the characters they created.

In an excellent oral history of the series in the Campo Santo Quarterly, various members of the team behind the spin-off cover the fact that main characters Rhys and Fiona were designed to be reused in the main shooter series.

"The hope was," explained producer Adam Sarasohn, "with Fiona, with Rhys, we wanted to essentially hand back to Gearbox fully-fleshed out, heroic characters that they could then use in Borderlands 3 and beyond."

Microsoft Working on Changes to Xbox Achievements

Microsoft has teased an update that "fundamentally changes the concept" of Xbox Achievements.

Speaking to Windows Central, Xbox platform corporate vice president Mike Ybarra explained that his team is "working towards a bigger, more meaningful change about somebody's gaming accomplishments in history, as a gamer on Xbox."

The idea, it seems, is to reward those who intensively play a single game as much as those who play many games (and don't worry, score-hunters, it sounds as though traditional achievements will be sticking around):

"We can do a lot more to reflect and let people show their gaming history and their status," Ybarra continued. "Whether it's somebody who only plays multiplayer in Halo 5 at a professional level, maybe they only have 2,000 Gamerscore, you want to be able to celebrate that person."
