Every Mark Millar Adaptation
Now that comic book adaptations have been ruling the box office for nearly two decades, we’re starting to notice that patterns have emerged. Some comic book writers have their work translated to the screen more often than others, and we can look at these films together, as a unit, to form a sort of de facto filmography. Maybe they’re faithful adaptations, maybe they’re bad, but at the root of all these movies there was one creator who keeps popping up at the multiplex, and whose writing keeps getting adapted for one reason or another: Mark Millar.
Millar is a Scottish comic book author who has been working in the industry since the 1980s, and who has written such famous characters as Judge Dredd, Superman, X-Men, Fantastic Four, Spider-Man and The Ultimates, while also creating his own distinctive, subversive heroes in various other imprints. Mark Millar is renowned for his controversial ideas, his vicious sense of humor, and his outlandish action sequences, and so it’s no wonder that his work has been translated to the big screen many, many times.
How Star Wars Is Fixing Its Biggest Problems
For as much as we love everything in Star Wars, we also can't seem to help ourselves from complaining about it. Whether it’s the Ewoks, the prequels, or The Force Awakens plot holes, people can’t help but nitpick, myself included. But as I’ve been reading Marvel’s Star Wars comics, I’ve been amazed at how they’ve been able to take those problem areas and make them into clever and compelling stories. It’s like turning lead into gold.
Take Captain Phasma, for example. Leading up to the release of The Force Awakens, her caped Stormtrooper in gleaming armor was featured prominently in the trailers and on the posters, and actress Gwendoline Christie did tons of press alongside the lead actors. She was even featured on the cover of Vogue in a silver dress evoking Phasma’s armor. But when the movie hit, she had sparse screen time and barely any lines. As for her role in the climactic battle, she was nothing more than a plot device and a means for Han Solo to make a trash compactor throwback joke. It was Boba Fett all over again: a cool costumed character that ultimately disappointed fans.

PUBG Publicly Shaming Fortnite Is A Terrible PR Move
In what is one of the most confusing PR decisions of the year, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds developer Bluehole sent out a press release today calling out Fortnite’s upcoming Battle Royale mode for “replicating” the PUBG experience, and vaguely threatening “further action.” The official statement says this is a response to “community concerns”, and some of those do exist, but addressing them like this accomplishes absolutely nothing. All it does is make PUBG players who had never heard of Fortnite scratch their chins in contemplation, especially considering their mode will be free, and PUBG is $30.
The Ray to Debut in Live-Action on DC TV Crossover
Quantico actor Russell Tovey will play The Ray on the four-show DC mega crossover event later this year.
EW reports that Tovey will voice The Ray for the CW Seed animated series Freedom Fighters: The Ray in addition to playing the character in live-action.

Final Fantasy XIV: The Legend Returns Details Revealed
Square Enix has unveiled a batch of new screenshots and details about Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood's upcoming patch, The Legend Returns.
According to the new preview site that was launched in anticipation for its early October release, The Legend Returns brings with it a new main scenario, as well as the alliance raid dungeon Return to Ivalice, which was developed in collaboration with Final Fantasy Tactics director Yasumi Matsuno and prolific director and character designer Keita Amemiya.
The Legend Returns will also feature a new dungeon set in the Drowned City of Skalla, as well as the new residential district Shirogane. For an early glimpse at the upcoming content featured in Patch 4.1, check out the slideshow below:

Star Trek is back on TV! ...Sort of. Star Trek: Discovery brings Starfleet back to the small screen with what is essentially a second prequel series . Set 10 years before the original Star Trek, but after the timeframe of Star Trek: Enterprise, Discovery follows First Officer Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) of the USS Shenzhou as a war between the United Federation of Planets and the Klingon race is brewing.
SNES Classic Wireless Controller Coming From Nyko
Nyko is making a wireless controller for SNES Classic Edition.
Called the Super Miniboss, the wireless controller looks like a traditional Super Nintendo pad but comes with an additional turbo button. It serves a dual purpose: faster input as well as home screen functionality when the button's pushed and then pressing select.
The wireless controller can work up to 20 feet away, according to Nyko. The Super Miniboss has an internal battery, which is rechargeable through a micro-USB port.
Pre-orders are available for the Super Miniboss now at GameStop and Nyko (eventually Amazon too). The wireless controller costs $20 and will start shipping around SNES Classic's launch on September 29.
Rare: Returning to Old Franchises Would be ‘the Worst Thing’ with No New Ideas
Returning to old franchises would be "the worst thing for Rare to do," according to studio head Craig Duncan.
In an interview with DK Vine, Duncan explained that Rare is not interested in revisiting some of its old franchises, like Banjo-Kazooie and Conker.
"I don't think it's OK to just go make the same game that people loved before but with up-to-date graphics, audio and all those things
Just making them again with whatever technology's available today - that's not Rare," Duncan said. "I think that what Rare is, is doing the kind of games that only Rare would go do."
