Thor 3: The More Havoc Hela Wreaks, the Stronger She Gets

Author's note: While Disney has allowed us to discuss the following plot details of Thor: Ragnarok, the super-spoilerphobic among you may want to bookmark this article and revisit it after seeing the Marvel film.

Oscar winner Cate Blanchett revealed during my visit to the set of Thor: Ragnarok last year that Hela has "a lot of unresolved issues" with Asgard, a grudge that she's nursed for eons. More details on that -- as well as details on Quentin Tarantino veteran Zoe Bell's role working with Blanchett on the film -- follow.

"Playing the goddess of death has been really interesting," Blanchett said. Death is an unsettling notion for the Western world where, as the actress put it, "death has been banished" as a topic of consideration. Hela has likewise been banished by Asgard. "She’s been banished for a very long time, and I think if you’re locked under the Asgardian stairs for five thousand years, you’d be a little bit cross," Blanchett said. "But I think it’s very interesting to bring the concept of death into a world that’s ostensibly immortal."

A decade ago, 300,000 people and a chunk of the city of Philadelphia were inexplicably transported to Oblivion, and at the same time enormous, man-eating monsters from that nightmarish dimension came to our world and wreaked havoc on the remainder of the city. Technology to visit Oblivion was developed but all rescue missions were called off because of the dangers of Oblivion. While most of society has moved on and the government considers the victims of the tragedy a loss, something is driving Nathan to keep going back, risking his life day after day.
