AMC VR App to Feature Extra Scene from TWD Premiere

AMC is making the jump to virtual reality with its biggest show, The Walking Dead.

Deadline reports the upcoming Season 8 premiere, which is also the 100th episode of the series, will feature an extra scene that can be viewed via AMC's new VR app. Executive producer Greg Nicotero directed the episode, titled "Mercy," and Kevin Cornish is co-directing the 360-degree VR scene, which will focus on Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).

"With the launch of AMC VR, we are pleased to bring shows like The Walking Dead and Into the Badlands to life in an immersive and experiential way," said AMC and Sundance TV’s EVP of Innovation and Product Development Mac McKean. "Viewers want to enter the worlds they watch on AMC, and this app brings them there."

Nintendo May Be Looking to Extend Switch Video Capture

Nintendo just recently added video capture to Switch, and may already be looking to extend the allotted recording time.

According to Kotaku's sources, Nintendo is planning to extend the recording limit, as the function is currently limited to 30 seconds of video time and only works for select first-party titles that support it.

The company allegedly wants to keep the time restriction in place until all first-party titles support the feature. Nintendo also reportedly wants larger third-party games that use its characters, like Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, supported early, and will be actively approaching the studios behind those titles to make it happen.

Visceral Star Wars Game Was ‘Fun and Funny’

Though Visceral Games' Star Wars project will live on in a different form, the linear, story-focused version of the game was beautiful, "fun and funny," the game's co-writer said.

Todd Stashwick, who was co-writing the linear, story-focused game with Amy Hennig at Visceral, publicly commented on what could have been following EA's announcement that Visceral would close and its Star Wars game would be refocused.

Destiny 2 Servers Down for Maintenance

If you're hoping to get in some Destiny 2 time today, you'll need to wait until later today, as the servers are currently undergoing maintenance.

The server maintenance is expected to last around 4 hours, according to Bungie. The maintenance period is scheduled to end at 12 Pacific Time, or 3 pm ET/8 pm GMT/6 am ACT.

Bungie didn't give a reason for the maintenance, but offers a generic explanation on the help page, saying Destiny servers will sometimes undergo "scheduled or emergency maintenance,"  or add updates "to address gameplay issues or add in-game features."

The Bungie Help Twitter account warned of today's downtime beginning yesterday.

Nintendo Switch Includes Wireless Headphones Support

The Nintendo Switch's latest 4.0.0 update came with surprise functionality not listed in Nintendo's official notes — the ability to use wireless headphones.

As originally spotted by NintendoLife, wireless headphones using a USB dongle are now natively supported by the Switch, meaning users no longer have to be tethered to the system. The Switch's dock has standard USB ports to attach a dongle to, but for use in handheld mode, Switch owners will need a USB-to-USB-C adapter for wireless headphone support.

For Switch owners looking for a new pair of headphones, IGN took a look earlier this year at the best gaming headsets available. The Switch still does not natively support Bluetooth headphones, however.

How Tacoma Totally Changed Halfway Through Development

Fullbright's latest game, Tacoma, underwent some major changes during development, and studio founder Steve Gaynor recently explained why they decided to pivot away from the game's original aesthetic and design.

"As much as we were trying to move away or to make the experience we were building feel legitimately different from Gone Home, we had still stuck with too many of our assumptions about it—like kind of the shape of how you moved through the game was still very much based on Gone Home," Gaynor said on the latest episode of our monthly interview show IGN Unfiltered.

He noted how they had AR figures in the game, which were "much more isolated" and ultimately not all that different than the audio diaries in Gone Home. "We just realized that we were not going as far as we needed to, and that the game that we were making contained ideas that were kind of being pointed towards—like the idea was there but we needed to do more with it," he said.

Battlefront 2’s Campaign Feels Just Like a Star Wars Movie

Spoiler warning and editor’s note: This preview contains plot details for the first three missions of Star Wars: Battlefront 2’s campaign, roughly the first two hours of the game. Additionally, one of Battlefront 2’s writers is former IGN editor Mitch Dyer. The author of this preview was hired after Dyer left IGN and has no relationship of any kind with him.

There’s an old Star Wars joke (best known from Kevin Smith’s Clerks) about all the janitors and construction workers who were innocently working on the second Death Star when it blew up. Sure, the Emperor was finally defeated, but what about the little people? Was working a day job for the Empire really deserving of such a grisly fate?

Switch Was the Top-Selling US Console in September

Nintendo took the top spot for September hardware sales, with strong showings from both Switch and the 3DS line.

Switch has surpassed 2 million units sold in the US since launch, and when combined with sales from the 3DS product family, as well as the recently released Super NES Classic, Nintendo hardware accounted for "two-thirds of the month’s total" hardware sold.

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle debuted at number 7 on the top 10 best-selling games for the month, followed by Metroid: Samus Returns for 3DS at number 8 and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild at the number 10 position.

Switch was also the best selling console for August 2017, and has been the top selling console for five of the seven months since its release.
