Horizon: Zero Dawn DLC Available in Monster Hunter: World From Launch

The first of two quests to unlock Horizon: Zero Dawn-themed items in Monster Hunter: World on PS4 will be available from launch - but it won't be around forever.

An event quest called 'Lessons of the Wild' is now available, but it only runs until February 8. It's not clear if the ability to unlock the armour will return later.

The game makes the announcement as part of players' Daily Login Bonus - see a screenshot below:

Ubisoft Introduces Loot Boxes Into Ghost Recon: Wildlands

In the midst of the ongoing loot box controversy, Ubisoft has waded in and rolled out paid-for loot boxes in Ghost Recon: Wildlands. Before we get too worked up, it's worth noting that the items inside them have no effect on gameplay stats, and are cosmetic items for character customisation. Phew!

The Ubisoft blog explains that the new Battle Crates - available in the Extended Ops update today - will be divided into loot boxes for the campaign and co-op mode (Spec Ops Crates) and boxes for the Ghost War mode (Ghost War Crates). All crate types will "have zero impact on gameplay and player’s progression, and will be "fair in terms of the items given to players."

Nintendo to Shut Down Miitomo in May

Nintendo's first smartphone app, Miitomo is set to close on May 9, just over two years after it launched.

From that date, the social media app will no longer allow you to use any features, or see your own saved messages or Miifotos. Your Miitomo Mii can be saved by linking Miitomo with your Nintendo Account, but any sidekick Mii characters will be deleted.

Miitomo's paid currency ceased being sold yesterday, but players will be given them as daily login bonuses so that they can continue using the shop and Miitomo drop features until the shutdown.

No reasoning has been given for the shutdown, but it's most likely because of a drop-off of users. Miitomo garnered 10 million users in the app's first month available.

Washington State Senator’s Bill To Determine If Loot Boxes Are Gambling

Following several governmental inquiries into whether gaming loot boxes constitute gambling, a Washington State Senator is now pushing for a new bill to regulate their use.

GamesIndustry.biz reports that the Democratic state senator for Orcas Island, Kevin Ranker, has stated that, "it is unacceptable to be targeting our children with predatory gambling masked in a game with dancing bunnies or something."

Dancing bunny boxes aside - something I think we'd all pay good money for - Ranker has introduced a bill that proposes to define whether or not loot boxes and related mechanics in games constitute gambling.
