Marvel Studios Boss Addresses Namor’s Complicated Rights Status

Marvel wants to work out how to use Namor the Sub-Mariner in the MCU, but Universal's cinematic rights to the character continue to make that a difficulty.

With the impending Disney/Fox deal and the historical contractual complications around Namor, IGN talked to Kevin Feige about how the takeover could affect the cinematic future of Marvel's king of the sea.

IGN: With the Disney/Fox deal, if that pans out, with the Sony rights sharing deal with Spidey, the one big loose end, then, is Namor and Universal. Can you tell us what the status of that is? Is there any chance for him to just pop up in an MCU film? It just sounds like an incredibly complicated situation, for one character.

GTA 5: Premium Online Edition Announced

Rockstar has announced a new special edition of GTA 5, seemingly aimed at bringing in new players - but don't expect anything new for existing players.

Grand Theft Auto V: Premium Online Edition will be available on Steam, Xbox One and PS4, and comprises the full GTA V package (including the single player game and a fully-updated GTA Online) and a Criminal Enterprise Starter Pack bonus.

This pack seems to be aimed at bringing new players into the series as the Starter Pack gives GTA Online players weapons, properties, and vehicles as well $1,000,000 of in-game currency - a total of $10,000,000 of in-game item value.

The Premium Online Edition costs $79.99 USD  / £59.99 / $99.95 AUD for a physical Xbox One or PS4 version or $84.99 USD / £67.99 /  $110.34 AUD on Steam.

Next Spidey Pic a Return to ‘Normal Life’ After Cosmic Avengers 4

Marvel Studios is deliberately following the cosmic Avengers 4, opening May 3, 2019, with an earthbound return to "normal life" in the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel, which opens two months later.

During my one-on-one print interview with him Sunday, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige cited Peter Parker's everyman quality as the key factor in grounding audiences in the first installment to follow the universe-threatening events depicted in Avengers 4. "He is one of us. He is, quote-unquote, a normal person, lives a normal life, with a normal environment, who, you know, got these powers, and who is exposed to these extraordinary things," Feige explained.

"And we loved how the events of Civil War, for as dramatic and intense and politically complex as they were, we loved how Peter dealt with it

Marvel Studios Head on Why Withholding Avengers 4 Title ‘Backfired’

Marvel Studios' decision to withhold the official title of Avengers 4 was done in an attempt to keep the spotlight focused on Infinity War, but it hasn't quite worked out like the studio had planned.

Speaking to IGN at the Avengers: Infinity War press day, Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige said he's "not sure" when the official title of Avengers 4 will be revealed, as they "haven't decided exactly" when to announce it to the public. A few weeks ago, directors Anthony and Joe Russo teased that fans should be scared by Avengers 4's title.

The Technomancer and the Rise of B-Grade Games

The lifecycle of something B-grade usually goes like so: Critics get the first whiff. It smells bad enough to stain their tongues, which they use to crow about said badness. In gaming, this can be an especially cruel time for ‘mid-tier’ games, because unlike cinema there is still little precedent for them. Mixed to middling reviews ensue. Deadlines and first impressions are, together, incapable of finding the blood diamond in what is sometimes overtly dismissed. Time passes, though, and some people wonder: “Why and how am I enjoying this?”

God of War Patch Lets Players Make Text Bigger

Santa Monica Studio has released a patch for God of War that gives players the option to increase the game's text size.

"We just released a new patch that focuses on text for map, goals, codex and the resources tab of the UI menus," the studio said in response to a fan on Twitter who noted it's difficult to read the on-screen text when playing on the couch.

Players who wish to increase the text size can do so using the newly added slider found in the "Accessibility" menu.

That said, it appears the slider doesn't entirely fix the problem. A number of users, particularly those who don't have a 4K display and are sitting relatively far away from the screen, have found the slider doesn't resolve the issue. As noted by Kotaku, turning up the slider magnifies the text rather than actually increasing the font size.

Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 Takes Place Around the World

While a portion of Marvel Studios' sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming will take place in New York, that won't be the film's only setting.

In an interview with io9, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed the movie will take place around the globe. Feige said one of the reasons they're shooting the sequel in London rather than Atlanta (like they did for the first movie) is because it's set in other areas of the world.

"We shoot a lot of films in London but there's another reason we're shooting in London which is, yes, Spidey, of course, will spend some time in New York, but he'll spend some time in other parts of the globe," he explained.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Aims to ‘Surpass the Original’

Square Enix aims to create "a title that surpasses the original" Final Fantasy VII with its upcoming remake for PS4.

According to a job listing (via Gematsu) for a Battle Planner and Level Planner to join the project, the game will be a "new creation not limited to a simple remake." The listing also reiterates that FFVII Remake is being developed internally at Square Enix. CyberConnect2 was previously working with Square on the project.

James Cameron Yearns for Avengers Fatigue

James Cameron recently commented on the superhero genre once more, saying that he hopes Avengers fatigue sets in soon.

According to IndieWire, Cameron openly critiqued the Avengers series when speaking to reporters this weekend, saying, "I’m hoping we’ll start getting Avenger fatigue here pretty soon. Not that I don’t love the movies. It’s just, come on guys, there are other stories to tell besides hyper-gonadal males without families doing death-defying things for two hours and wrecking cities in the process."

With a saga of his own coming to fruition in the next four instalments of the Avatar movies, Cameron has a different take on how stories of such a magnitude can be handled.
