Behind Campo Santo’s Surprising Decision to Join Valve
Firewatch developer Campo Santo recently announced its entire team would be leaving life as an independent studio behind to join Valve. And while that move may seem surprising, it’s born from Campo having found itself in its own unexpected situation.
“We made the dream game. We made the game that wasn't supposed to make all the money. We made a sad guy in the woods, psychological-slash-dramatic personal quest,” Campo Santo co-founder Sean Vanaman told IGN in a phone interview.
Get a First Look at John Cena’s Animated YouTube Comedy Dallas & Robo
The Champ is getting animated. WWE Superstar John Cena and Thor scene-stealer Kat Dennings are lending their voices to YouTube Red's new animated series Dallas and Robo, and IGN has a first look at the buddy comedy, which is animated by ShadowMachine - the same production company behind Netflix's BoJack Horseman.
IGN can exclusively reveal that the eight-episode series will premiere May 30 on the WWE's YouTube channel. Take a look at the first images from the show below.
Dallas and Robo follows sassy space trucker Dallas (Dennings) and cowboy-hat-wearing-AI robot Robo (Cena) as they try and make a few dollars in the seedy world of interplanetary big-rigging, while navigating their way through cannibal bikers, rival space truckers and vending machine burritos. The half-hour comedy will also include a bevy of guest stars including Jane Lynch, Giancarlo Esposito, Taran Killam, Clancy Brown, Nat Faxon, Dana Snyder, Bree Williamson and Girl Milana Vayntrub.

George Lucas Added a Joke to Solo: A Star Wars Story
It seems George Lucas is still contributing to Star Wars in a small way.
While appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert (spotted by EW), Solo director Ron Howard revealed Lucas offered a joke for Han in one small scene during a set visit. Howard ended up including his addition in the film.
“We were doing a scene and he was trying to stay out of the way, but he did lean over and he said, ‘You know what Han would really do there?'” Howard said. “I said, ‘What?’ And he described the joke, he gave me a little joke. And I said
Activision Says It’s Drawing Inspiration From Battle Royale Games
Activision CEO Bobby Kotick has said the company is "very good at being inspired" by trends in the industry, like the growing popularity of the battle royale genre.
During an investor call, Kotick voiced his admiration for Fortnite for "attracting new gamers of all ages and genders." He later added that "when we see people innovate in an interesting and impactful way, we are very quick to figure out how to capture inspiration from innovation.
"When we see things that appeal to our audiences, we are very good at being inspired by those."
Last month, reports surfaced that Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 wouldn't have a traditional single-player campaign though would feature a battle royale mode.
How Rockstar Is Making Its Open Worlds Even Better
“We’ve always tried to make these worlds places you can get lost in. Feel like they exist when you’re not even in them – like they’re waiting for you.”
That’s the kind of world Rob Nelson, co-studio head of Rockstar North, wants to build.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is Rockstar’s first original game in five years, and the first it’s built specifically for the current generation of consoles. It’s a fact that’s easy to forget with GTA V still dominating sales charts and amidst the constant updates to GTA Online.
Work on Read Dead 2 began eight years ago, as production drew to a close on its predecessor. “I think when we finished this one...” Nelson breaks off and gestures towards a screen behind him in his Edinburgh office; it’s running Red Dead Redemption on an old Xbox 360 debug console. “I always like to keep it close by, just to stay familiar with it and the feelings it evokes.” The TV displays the game’s title screen, which teases the player with a sliver of the game’s natural beauty.
How Avengers: Infinity War Finally Gave Us the True Doctor Strange
Avengers: Infinity War saw Earth’s mightiest heroes team up to battle Thanos, and while everyone was pulling out all the stops while fighting the Mad Titan, no one did so in more surprising fashion than Doctor Strange. As a lover of the comics, I had issues with Doctor Strange’s origin movie and wasn’t sure if I’d ever get to see the ideal version of the Sorcerer Supreme on-screen, but thanks to a few key changes, and whole lot of magic, Infinity War showed us the true version of the character from the comics.
And to explain just how the folks at Marvel Studios did this, I’m going into full spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War!

What We Do in the Shadows Series Ordered at FX
Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi’s What We Do in the Shadows is officially headed to TV, with FX ordering a 10-episode season of the half-hour comedy series. FX commissioned a pilot for the show back in January.
Based on the 2014 New Zealand mockumentary comedy of the same name, the series will follow the lives of three vampires who have been roommates for hundreds and hundreds of years. The TV adaptation will be set in New York City rather than Wellington, NZ and will star Matt Berry, Kayvan Novak, Natasia Demetriou, and Harvey Guillen.
“What We Do in the Shadows only gets better with age thanks to this brilliant adaptation for television by co-creators Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi,” said FX president of original programming Nick Grad. “Their feature version was a hilarious, fresh take on the mundanity of everyday life that even immortals must face. We are thankful to them, Paul Simms and Scott Rudin, and this amazing cast for taking us deeper into the shadows with this series.”
