One Man’s Quest to Save Sonic The Hedgehog

Brian Costelloe is visibly nervous as he parks outside the ramshackle junkyard complex. He steps out of his car to fetch his camera from its boot, because he wants to film the excursion for his YouTube channel. He crosses the road before changing his mind, returning to his car to put the camera back in the boot. He does up his jacket over a Sonic The Hedgehog t-shirt. “I don’t want to be too obvious,” he says.

As we step into the junkyard, signs around the entrance are so immediately hostile to potential wrongdoers that I understand his caution. ‘WARNING, AREA UNDER SURVEILLANCE’. ‘NO DUMPING, WE WILL FORWARD YOUR REGO TO THE POLICE’. And the real doozy: ‘GOD SAYS YOU SHOULD FORGIVE THOSE WHO TRESPASS AGAINST YOU. NOT ME, I SHOOT THE BASTARDS’.

Square Enix Files Trademark for ‘Outriders’

A trademark for "Outriders" has been filed by Square Enix.

The trademark, spotted by Gematsu, was filed on May 18, 2018 with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).

Square Enix has yet to announce anything related to the trademark, but considering it was filed as "game software" and "entertainment services," it's quite possible Outriders is the name of a game that will soon be announced by the publisher.

Last year, Square Enix announced a partnership with People Can Fly. The Bulletstorm developer is developing a AAA game that will be published by Square Enix.

Tom Hardy and the Royal Wedding’s Star Wars Connection

There were several movie stars in attendance at the Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, but it was a bald and sometimes very bored-looking Tom Hardy who caught the attention of the Internet. And while many Bane jokes were made thanks to the actor’s shaved head, it’s a very different geek property that ties Hardy to Harry: Star Wars.

Hardy, along with groom Prince Harry and his elder brother Prince William, all appeared together in a scene for Star Wars: The Last Jedi that was ultimately deleted. It is, however, included as an extra on The Last Jedi’s home entertainment release.

13 Reasons Why Season 3 Should Forget Hannah and Follow a New School

Warning: this article contains spoilers for 13 Reasons Why: Season 2. If you haven't already, you can check out our Season 2 spoiler-free review right here.

At this point, there seems little doubt that Netflix will renew 13 Reasons Why for a third season. Season 1 is reportedly among Netflix's highest-viewed programs ever, and Season 2 is poised to follow suit. And where Season 1 told a largely self-contained story, Season 2 ended on a more open-ended note, suggesting that plans are already in motion.

The question is less whether there will be a Season 3 than whether there should be. Many were surprised when the series was renewed the first time, and Season 2 didn't necessarily justify that choice in the end (read our review here). Is there really anything left to add to the story of Hannah Baker and the impact of her tragic suicide? Can the series redeem itself after its sophomore slump? We have a few ideas for how the series can move forward from here.

College Esports Is Growing Whether You like It or Not

Esports are a joke, playing video games is a waste of time, and these kids need to lay off the Doritos and go outside.

Archaic views like this aren’t uncommon, but they didn’t hold much weight when the student-athletes from Université Laval threw off their headsets to hug and celebrate as confetti fluttered down around them. It was a fitting moment of validation for a group of players that had put their all into becoming the best collegiate Heroes of the Storm team in the world, all while holding down jobs, earning degrees and, perhaps unknowingly, paving the way for generations of collegiate esports players to come.
