The Expanse Officially Revived by Amazon for Season 4

The Expanse is officially coming back for a new season.

THR reports Amazons Studios has closed a deal for Season 4 of the sci-fi series. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos made the announcement at a panel at the National Space Society with the cast and crew present. A premiere date for the new season has not been set yet.

The Expanse is an adaption of James S. A. Corey's book series. Bezos is said to be a big fan of the novels and wasn't all too happy when Syfy got the TV show. Reports of Amazon potentially picking up the series first surfaced earlier this month.

E3 Lays Out Security Guidelines for This Year’s Show

Things have gotten a little more strict when it comes to security on the show floor of this year's E3.

Backpacks will no longer be allowed on the show floor unless you are part of the media or an exhibitor at the show. Anyone else attending the show, including those with a Gamer Pass, can bring a small bag that doesn't go over the 12" x 15" x 6" limit.

Swag bags collected on the show floor can be used as well, but once they leave the convention center they cannot be brought back in. Every bag and backpack will be searched before entry, something that hasn't been done in years past. Bringing a mesh or clear bag can help speed up the process.

Cameras and tripods are also restricted, unless you have a media badge. Food and snacks must be left outside the show floor and you must be able to power on all your devices during your bag search. Cosplay weapon props need to be inspected and approved at the designated E3 weapons check. You can find a full list of regulations here.

Battlefield 5 Dev: ‘Player Choice and Female Playable Characters Are Here to Stay’

According to Battlefield V's developer, the studio is prioritizing player choice, inclusion, and diversity for the upcoming game, but the highest priority is fun.

DICE General Manager Oskar Gabrielson shared his thoughts on the reactions to the game's recent reveal on Twitter, saying "player choice and female playable characters are here to stay."

After the reveal of Battlefield V, a vocal minority spoke out in protest of the game's cover art, which features a woman soldier. Some said the game's depiction of women WWII soldiers was "unrealistic," even though the inclusion of women fighting in WWII is one of the most realistic things Battlefield does.

Why Marvel Has Us Excited for the Future of SHIELD

As a longtime Marvel Comics reader, this week was one of mixed emotions. On the one hand, it's great seeing one of my favorite characters, Black Panther, getting such a bold overhaul in his new series. On the other, the release of Invincible Iron Man #600 (check out my review here) officially brought an end to writer Brian Michael Bendis' Marvel career. Bendis has been a hugely influential force at Marvel for most of the past two decades, and it's still strange to think of the company moving forward without him. The silver lining, though, is that he left Marvel with one final parting gift before making the jump to DC. Even as Bendis closes the door on Tony Stark's current journey, he's leaving Marvel with the opportunity to revitalize the SHIELD franchise.

HBO’s Watchmen: Jeremy Irons Will Reportedly Play Ozymandias

Update 11/8: Per /Film, HBO’s upcoming Watchmen series will reportedly see Oscar-winner Jeremy Irons play an older version of Adrian Veidt/Ozymandias.

In addition, HBO has confirmed that Jean Smart, known for her roles in Legion and Fargo, will be joining the cast as an FBI agent investigating a murder.

To find out why having an older actor play Ozymandias makes sense, check out our explainer piece below.

The critically acclaimed comic series Watchmen is making the transition to live-action again. But this time, it's being adapted as an HBO series, with Lost's Damon Lindelof serving as showrunner - on August 17, HBO officially ordered Watchmen to series, to debut at some point in 2019. And while little is known about the series so far, it's clear that the new project will seek to expand on the Watchmen universe rather than retread ground fans have already seen before.

Amazon’s Picnic at Hanging Rock is a Horror Story You Won’t Predict

Picnic at Hanging Rock is an exquisite nightmare of a story, a horrifying mystery without explanation, and the focal point for ceaseless obsession. It has been this terrifying thing for many decades now, and the new Amazon miniseries is only the latest incarnation. This is no mere period piece. This is gothic despair.

The story began, allegedly, as a series of dreams which befell Australian author Joan Lindsay, about a group of young girls on a field trip to Hanging Rock, an ancient volcanic mountain, where they mysteriously vanished. The story continues to tell the story of the people investigating her disappearance, the passionate despair and madness that befalls those who become obsessed with the incident, and the tragedy that befalls the school afterwards. Joan Lindsay made her disturbing story all the more fascinating by suggesting that her novel was based on a true story, an approach that made her writing - and the subsequent film - all the more unsettling.
