Devil May Cry 5 Feels Amazing, Even When Your Arm Falls Off
Nero's arm falls off constantly, and I think it might be Devil May Cry 5's best new feature.
When I first saw that Dante's nephew had had his demonic arm mysteriously amputated and replaced with a robotic prosthetic, I assumed that it would become upgradeable, embracing the 'RPG systems in action games' zeitgeist. I was wrong.
Capcom's doubled down on the series action roots, turning that robot arm into an excuse to introduce as many new abilities as possible - and doing it in the funniest possible way. Nero's arms are replaceable and, better, disposable.
Each type of arm (I've tried two, but Capcom's already shown off more) comes with a different special attack that helps bridge combos and keep the game's style meter ticking up. Those attacks can be charged up for the equivalent of super attacks - a Kamehameha-like energy beam, for example - but the pay-off is that you lose the arm once it's over.
New Control Demo Digs Into Weapon Forms, Boss Battle
When we first saw Control, Remedy’s next supernatural action adventure game coming out in 2019, you may have been confused. You, like me, may have marveled at its floatiness and wondered about its creepy setting and transforming pistol and architecture. You may have thought the mysteries would drag out from there, for months on end, like any good E3 trailer would normally set up for.
But the team at Remedy’s been very forthcoming since then, talking (mostly) freely about what form the narrative and gameplay structures in the game will take. During our liveshow at E3, our own Max Scoville and Ryan McCaffrey learned that the main protagonist, Jesse Faden, seeks out the Federal Bureau of Control -- a government organization in charge of all things alien and supernatural -- to discover what happened to give her the powers she increasingly gains throughout the game. In doing so, she becomes trapped in the FBC headquarters after an invasion of something called the Hiss that seems to possess humans, and assumes the role of its director through some mystical ritual that has yet to be explained.

Overwatch Gets New Map, New D.Va Animated Short
Blizzard has released a brand new cinematic short for Overwatch's D.Va, alongside Busan, a new map.
The long awaited short, Shooting Star, shows a more vulnerable side to the fan-favorite hero. Check it out below.
Overwatch's new control map is also D.Va themed. Players will battle for three territories in Busan, Sanctuary, Downtown, and MEKA Base.
Sanctuary features an ancient temple and historic architecture, Downtown is all bright lights and a central light rail station (watch out for the train), and the MEKA Base houses South Korea's frontline defense against the gwishin omnic attacks. Check out your first look at Busan, which is currently available on the PTR, in the trailer below.

Biomutant is the Most Bananas Game You’ve (Probably) Never Heard of
At one point during my demo at Gamescom, Biomutant’s furry little protagonist started beating up the heart of one of its 5 big bosses from inside its chest cavity. As the little fella pummelled away, accompanied by Batman-esque ‘Pows!’, Biomutant solidified the delightful absurdity the team at Experiment 101 is going for.
The 20-odd minute demo of Biomutant, which I was only tangentially aware of before today, was designed to show off its playful open world. Our racoon-like protagonist began his journey in a radioactive wasteland; one of four different environments that he or she can start off in. Immediately, we spot a ‘fluff hulk’, an accurately-named monster being attacked by one of Biomutant’s six tribes for its furry wool and its ability to eat radioactive berries and poop them into coffee.
15 Things We Learned Playing Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
Back at E3 2018, we were able to watch a demo of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and we've been itching for some hands-on time ever since. Now that we've finally got to play in the demo area we saw a few months ago, it's become clear that From Software's latest adventure is both miles apart from the Souls series, but also features certain callbacks that fans will notice on their journey
Since we were also able to see the HUD and get a better grasp of core mechanics, there were a lot of things in Sekiro that we hadn't caught before, and you can see our playthrough in the video below. Here's everything we noticed in our time with the demo:

US Congressman Indicted for Spending Campaign Funds on Steam Games
United States Congressman Duncan Hunter of California and his wife Margaret Hunter have been indicted by the Federal Election Committee for spending campaign funds on personal expenses, including over $1300 on Steam games. The indictment has just been unsealed.
CNN has provided the full indictment, which was officially unsealed on August 21, 2018, and mostly includes non-gaming related charges including hotels, flights, rounds of golf, movie tickets and much, much more. In total, the alleged charges add up to over $250,000. Hunter has reportedly reimbursed his campaign account about $65,000 after the FEC began questioning the campaign’s spending, specifically on video games, in 2016.
Doom Patrol: Brendan Fraser Joins the DC TV Series as Robotman
Brendan Fraser, known for his roles in The Mummy, George of the Jungle and more, has been cast as Robotman (aka Cliff Steele) in DC Universe’s live-action series Doom Patrol.
As announced by Deadline, Fraser will do voiceover work for Robotman while Riley Shanahan will be the on-stage performer of the character in full costume. Fraser will play Cliff Steele in flashback scenes, before the character nearly dies in a race car accident that results in his brain being transplanted into a robot host.
Doom Patrol will also include Diane Guerrero as Crazy Jane, April Bowlby as Elasti-Woman, Jovian Wade as Cyborg, and as-of-yet unannounced actors playing Negative Man and Dr. Niles Caulder. If you want to know more about Doom Patrol, check out our explanation of the somewhat obscure super team.
Marvel Needs to Give Spider-Man Miles Morales a New Home
Miles Morales is a standout Spider-Man, but recent storylines have called into question whether he is better off as a character ever since Marvel pulled him into the main Marvel Universe. While more Miles is certainly preferable to no Miles at all, the time may have come to give Miles his own universe again.
Marvel Comics used 2015's Secret Wars event as a way of closing the door on the long-running Ultimate Universe imprint, the comic line where we first met Miles Morales and saw him become that universe's new Spider-Man. Rather than eliminate that character along with the entire line, Marvel moved Miles over to the standard Marvel Universe where he now operates as a second Spider-Man alongside Peter Parker.
