Bioware Says Anthem Is a ‘Continued Evolution’ from Its Past RPGs

Anthem's Game Director, Jon Warner said that despite what fans have speculated about Anthem being a departure from past BioWare games, the upcoming game is actually an evolution of their craft.

Speaking with GamesIndustry.biz, Warner called Anthem an "amalgamation" of everything BioWare has done to date. An MMO looter shooter seems on the surface to be a change of course from the single-player RPGs BioWare is beloved for, but Warner insisted the changes are evolutionary.

"If you look at BioWare games on a spectrum, from Baldur's Gate to Neverwinter, and Jade Empire to Knights of the Old Republic, to Mass Effect and Dragon Age," Warner said, "you'll see that the games have always been about evolving our technique and storytelling... so the way that we look at it, Anthem is not a departure, it's the continued evolution of our craft and our technique."

Marvel’s Spider-Man Fans Are Arguing About Puddle Sizes

Some gamers who were looking forward to Spider-Man's release next week are claiming Insomniac Games has downgraded Spider-Man's visuals, leading to smaller puddles and several other perceived problems.

A Reddit post from Thursday morning by Ghulam_Jewel compares Spider-Man E3 and release screenshots, and is nearing 7,000 upvotes and 1,000 comments. Redditors are arguing over whether or not the textures look worse in the release versions – but one thing everyone agrees on is that what once was a giant puddle is now a smaller puddle.

Whether or not consumers will let this lead to a buying decision is unknown. While some fans have made jokes that it would be a silly reason to not buy Marvel's Spider-Man, others are sticking to their guns and letting Insomniac hear about it on Twitter.

Membership Reward Programs to Help You Save on Video Games

Membership reward programs are one of the best ways to save on games across the board. The savings for preorders might be diminished, but depending on how often you buy games, a membership or loyalty-rewards program might be able to close the preorder-savings gap, especially if you buy a lot of games and other qualifying products that accrue points. The bummer is you have to spend money to save money with rewards programs. But if you're buying lots of games anyway, you might as well take advantage of any extra offers retailers might have.

First Best Buy stopped taking new sign-ups for its incredibly generous Gamers Club Unlocked service, then Amazon announced it, too, was ending its generous discount on preorder games. But that doesn't mean there aren't still ways to save on your games, it just means they aren't nearly as cut-and-dry.

Ranking Every Single Jack Ryan

There aren't a lot of heroes like Jack Ryan. He's not a tough guy with a gun, he's a desk jockey and a family man with a bad back who does analysis for the CIA. Only sometimes - in the most extreme situations - does he need to go out in the field and save the day. And even then, he doesn't do most of the cool car chases and shootouts.

So why do we love Jack Ryan? It's probably because he seems plausible. As created by Tom Clancy, and brought to life in five movies and now a new Amazon television series starring John Krasinski (debuting August 31), he treats the geopolitical dangers that America faces with maturity and intelligence. In real life you don't want James Bond blowing up buildings just to interrogate a suspect. You want Jack Ryan crunching the numbers, knowing the history, figuring out how to solve problems before they even start.
