Exclusive: Red Dead Online Devs Offer First Details of RDR2 Multiplayer
Rockstar recently revealed Red Dead Online, Red Dead Redemption 2’s multiplayer component, will launch in November 2018 (initially as a public beta). Considering the many questions we’ve had about the nature of Red Dead 2’s up-til-now mysterious online mode, we asked Imran Sarwar, Director of Design at Rockstar North, and Josh Needleman, Senior Producer at Rockstar San Diego, to go into a little more detail about Rockstar’s evolution in the realm of multiplayer.
The pair elaborated on what elements of GTA Online will appear in RDO and how it will differ, as well as why they aren’t launching it alongside the single-player mode and the lessons learned from GTA Online’s rocky start and subsequent success as an online game.
Red Dead Online Announced
Rockstar Games announced today that Red Dead Redemption 2’s multiplayer component will be called Red Dead Online and launch some time in November of 2018.
According to an exclusive Q&A with the development team behind Red Dead Online, it will take elements of the original Red Dead Redemption’s multiplayer “much further, and combine that with everything we’ve learned in the years since then with our favorite elements from Grand Theft Auto Online.”
The initial launch period will be considered a “public beta,” according to the post from Rockstar’s Newswire. “We feel Grand Theft Auto Online really only found its feet creatively with Heists,” says Josh Needleman, Senior Producer at Rockstar’s San Diego office, says.

Avengers 4: Intriguing Clue Could Suggest Its Title
Update: Another intriguing possible clue in the Russo brothers' Avengers photo has lent more credence to the idea that Avengers Assemble may in fact be the title of the sequel.
Erik Mathews on Twitter responded to /Film noting that an item in the photo looks to be an object that can be seen in Avengers: Infinity War at the Avengers facility. That item is present in a scene that, on the film's Blu-ray, is found during a chapter titled "Avengers Assemble."

The 1980s Cult Classic That Inspired Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker Movie
With the final trailer for the Joaquin Phoenix Joker movie now out, this is the perfect time to reevaluate the Martin Scorsese film The King of Comedy, which was reportedly a major influence on this adaptation of the DC character. Joker is heading to theaters on October 4, but first it heads to the Venice Film Festival this week where we'll hear the first reactions from critics about this latest iteration of the Clown Prince of Crime.
Watch the new trailer here, and then read our updated piece on The King of Comedy and its possible Joker connections.
If you’re excited about the Joker origin movie starring Joaquin Phoenix, you have some homework to do. The new film reportedly takes its inspiration from a cult classic Martin Scorsese/Robert De Niro movie which was largely overlooked in its time, but was eventually reevaluated, and is now considered one of the most acidic motion pictures about the entertainment industry ever filmed. The movie is called The King of Comedy, and it’s only one step removed from “The Clown Prince of Crime.”
Yakuza Spin-Off Project Judge Brings Fresh Detective Action to a Familiar World
After finishing the demo of Project Judge (titled Judge Eyes in Japan) available on the Japanese PlayStation Store, I understood that the development team of the Yakuza series was indeed trying something new. However, it took a while before the demo allowed me to experience that “completely different” experience director Toshihiro Nagoshi had promised.
After an opening story sequence, I was brought to the fictional Tokyo nightlife district of Kamurocho, whose neon-lit streets are well known to fans of the Yakuza series. The camera zooms over the bustling cityscape before settling on our detective hero, Takayuki Yagami, disguised as a homeless person as he prepares for a stakeout. Between the Kamurocho streets and Yagami’s muscular and shady-looking detective buddy, familiarity set in fast.
Sega Mega Drive Mini Delayed into 2019
Sega's Mega Drive Mini console has been delayed into 2019, according to a tweet by Sega's Japanese Twitter account. The Mega Drive Mini was originally planned to release in Japan this year.
The good news for classic Sega fans is that the response to the retro console's announcement earlier this year has been strong enough that Sega is now also bringing versions of it to the United States and Europe. All three regions will get the console, which will be called the Sega Genesis Mini in the U.S., at the same time thanks to a worldwide launch.
Switch Owners Can Now Play Their Games on More Than One Console
Thanks to the release of version 6.0 yesterday, Switch owners now have the ability to play their downloaded games and content on a second console. The functionality works by having users designate "primary" and "non-primary" consoles through their Nintendo Account.
If a Switch owner is without their own console but has access to someone else's, it's possible to log into their Nintendo Account on this non-primary console and play all of their digital game content on it. The catch is that users will have to maintain an internet connection while playing their owned content on any non-primary console. If the user loses their internet connection, then the game will pause "after a certain amount of time." The player can resume where their game was paused once a connection is reestablished.
