The True Legacy of Stan Lee at Marvel Comics

The pop culture world was dealt a huge blow today with the news that Stan Lee passed away at the age of 95. Lee is widely celebrated as one of the primary architects of the Marvel Universe. He co-created many of the company's most famous heroes and villains and managed to become the public face of Marvel for decades. But ultimately, Lee's true legacy at Marvel Comics isn't any one character or franchise, but the deep inspiration he provided for generations of creators that followed.

Lee's resume includes a laundry list of iconic superhero characters - Spider-Man, the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, the Avengers and on and on. That said, Lee isn't singlehandedly responsible for creating any of the characters he's so closely associated with. Spider-Man was a joint creation with Steve Ditko. Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, the Fantastic Four and the X-Men were all developed alongside Jack Kirby. But that's the beauty of comics - it's generally a collaborative medium. If you didn't have Kirby's boundless imagination and superhuman work ethic paired with Lee's sense of humor, grandiose storytelling style and marketing skills, none of these characters would be what they are today. It's safe to say many of them might never have left the drawing board in the first place.

101 Amazing Little Details in Red Dead Redemption 2

Red Dead Redemption 2 promises an unparalleled level of depth, from its vast, sprawling world, to the people and animals within it, and how it all fits together in a way that is quite unlike any open-world game before it. Similarly, it's filled with moments where you'll ask yourself, "I wonder if I can do that?", and chances are you probably can, no matter how outrageous it is.

Colonizing Mars Just Got a Lot More Complicated on the National Geographic Series

Colonizing Mars might seem like a far-future sci-fi fantasy, but National Geographic's half-documentary, half-scripted drama Mars posits that perhaps it's not too far off. The hybrid series is back for a second season on Mondays at 9 p.m. ET beginning Nov. 12, and while the second season leans heavier into the soapy, scripted drama, the urgency of scientists' latest warnings about climate change make it more topical than ever.

One thing we learn in the series is that even embarking on the seven-month journey requires years of rigorous training — and there's no guarantee of a return trip back.

"When they go up there,

are signing a will. They know there's a very good chance that they could die, and they could not come back," star Jihae told IGN and a small group of reporters during a visit to the series' Budapest, Hungary set in the summer of 2017. "That's quite a sacrifice."
