Fortnite’s Ice Storm Event Begins After In-Game Event Covers Map in Snow

Another in-game event went live in Fortnite this morning, covering the entire map in snow and kicking off the Ice Storm event.

Earlier this week, a mysterious ice sphere appeared above Polar Peak. A silhouette of the Ice King, the final reward of Season 7's Battle Pass, was visible inside. Television sets across the map began broadcasting a forecast warning with a countdown to today's event.

The event started with ice sphere exploding, fully revealing the Ice King and clearing out any storm effects in the sky. A giant icy figure appeared over the ocean and sent forth a frosty wind across the map. Once the fog settled, the entire map was covered in snow.

12 Comic Book Supervillains Who Deserve Their Own Horror Movie

Something is happening to superhero movies. On average, they're getting less... superheroic. Films like Venom, Suicide Squad, Split, Glass and The Joker are putting the supervillains front and center, and the upcoming Superman allegory Brightburn goes one step further, turning superhero iconography on its head and making a "super" "boy" into a horror movie villain.

These films raise an interesting question, which is what about the rest of the villains? DC and Marvel Comics are filled with interesting bad guys, and they're not all secretly golden-hearted. Many of them are evil as hell. If they got their own movies they'd still be the villains, and most movie franchises that are centered around despicable monsters are in the horror genre.

How Justice League Dark Spotlights DC’s Most Unlikely Hero

The most recent incarnation of the Justice League Dark boasts some pretty big names, but it's real heart isn't any of its A-listers like Wonder Woman or Zatanna or Swamp Thing. It's a talking chimpanzee in a deerstalker cap who goes by the name Detective Chimp, and he's the secret to making the DC's thoroughly complicated magical lore accessible. He's a hard-nosed sleuth with an eye for mysteries and a skill with deduction that rivals Batman, a bizarre everyman around to provide commentary and, inexplicably, logic, to even the most bizarre magical mishaps, and a charmingly put-upon moral compass for the JLD's exploits.

So, what on earth does an anthropomorphic primate have to do with DC's mystic heroes?

"We all feel like we've turned a corner now. We're playing by the DC playbook, which is very different than the Marvel playbook. We are far less focused on a shared universe. We take it one movie at a time." He added that each film is "its own equation and own creative entity."

Aquaman released in December of last year and made $1 billion at the global box office, making it the first DC film to hit the milestones since The Dark Knight Rises.

Warner Bros. has delayed the start of production for Fantastic Beasts 3, according to Deadline.
