When Will HBO’s Game of Thrones Prequel Start Filming?

The Game of Thrones prequel series, widely being referred to as The Long Night, has gotten an official production start window.

Reported by EW, HBO programming president Casey Bloys says the series will begin production sometime in early summer. While a specific starting date on production has not yet been announced, Bloys has previously claimed it won’t air until at least a year after Game of Thrones has finished. As its final episode is set to air on May 19, 2019, it appears the prequel series won’t air until summer 2020 at the earliest.

EW also reports that a writers room is allegedly already in operation for this prequel series, and it's working on additional scripts if HBO green-lights more episodes.

Nintendo Switch: Fortnite’s Built-in Voice Chat Tech Coming to More Games

Nintendo's restrictive voice chat system is looking shabby as the company powering Fortnite's built-in voice chat is opening its services for other games on Switch.

Vivox is a communication service providing text and voice chat to games like PUBG, Rainbow Six Siege, and League of Legends. The company announced an upcoming software development kit allowing third-party Switch developers to make use of the voice chat platform. Cross-play integration for games that support it is included right from the start.

Fortnite was the first to bring Vivox to Nintendo's platform when it released back in June of last year. Hi-Rez is set to bring Vivox to the already released Paladins when full cross-play is added in an upcoming update on Switch. Smite will get the same treatment.

Here’s Why There Are No Titans in Apex Legends

Respawn Entertainment has said the giant mechs that populated its Titanfall series simply didn't work in its free-to-play battle royale game, Apex Legends.

Though Respawn has explicitly said Apex Legends is not a sequel to Titanfall 2, it is set in the same universe, leading many to wonder if wall running and big old robots were ever considered. Speaking to IGN, Executive Producer Drew McCoy said that they were, but they just didn't work within the battle royale genre.

"During development of Apex Legends, we prototyped a lot of stuff," said McCoy. "Having come from Titanfall 2, we tried wall-running and double jumping and triple jumping, and all sorts of crazy stuff. And the goal of the game from a development standpoint was to create something strategic and masterable and learnable and very deep, and a lot of those mechanics were detrimental to those goals."

Update: On a call reporting Q3 financial results for EA, the company said it plans to introduce a “premium” Titanfall experience  — which likely means a traditional, non-free-to-play game — later this year and that it will be a “twist” on the franchise. No additional details were revealed.

Original story follows:

Hot on the heels of the release of free-to-play battle royale, Apex Legends, Respawn has assured fans there is "more Titanfall" coming, too.

On Twitter, CEO Vince Zampella teased there is more than just Apex Legends in Respawn's future, saying "We are also working on more Titanfall for later in the year." He continued by saying "We love being able to experiment in this crazy universe!"

Apex Legends May Get Cross-Play

Respawn is currently working on Cross-play for Apex Legends, but is not promising anything at the moment.

Lead Producer at Respawn, Drew McCoy, told Eurogamer that it, "plans to allow players to play with their friends on other platforms," in the future.

However, McCoy said cross-progression and cross-purchases will never be a possibility in the game. The inability is due to the way the systems were created early on in the process, which, "can't

reconciled after the fact," he said.

Apex Legends has already made a huge impact in the battle royale world, first with its secrecy around the game and its sudden launch on Monday. As of Tuesday morning, Respawn's CEO, Vince Zampella, announced that Apex Legends brought in 1 million players in less than eight hours from its launch.
