Spoilers! Tracing THAT Captain Marvel Item’s Timeline

Full spoilers follow for Captain Marvel! And for more on how Captain Marvel fits into the MCU, make sure to watch IGN's Marvel movie timeline in chronological order, below.

So… Marvel just can’t get away from those darned Infinity Stones, can they? Captain Marvel is just the latest movie of many to feature one of the Stones -- in this case, the Tesseract -- even though it’s set about 20 years before the Great Decimation seen at the end of Avengers: Infinity War where Thanos used the stones to wipe out half of all life everywhere.

But before that universe-altering event, Carol Danvers had to contend with just one of the Stones -- the Space Stone. At that point in its history (the film is set in the 1990s), that particular cosmic power source was still contained within the cube known as the Tesseract. And not surprisingly, the appearance of the Tesseract in Captain Marvel has some fans confused.

How Captain Marvel Could Be Setting Up This X-Man

Captain Marvel tells Carol Danvers’ origin story, but in a way it also sets the groundwork for the iconic X-Men character Rogue. The completion of the Fox/Disney deal is still pending, but if Marvel does get the rights to use X-Men characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, then it could result in the most comics-accurate portrayal of Rogue on the big screen to date, all thanks to Captain Marvel.

In the comics, Rogue debuted in 1981’s Avengers Annual #10. Introduced as a new member of Mystique’s Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, she was a brutally efficient fighter, able to fly with great speed and hit like a truck. She even took down Captain America and Thor, adding their strength to her own to become momentarily unstoppable against the assembled Avengers. This was because her mutant gift was to temporarily drain others of their powers and memories. But during an encounter with Carol Danvers, then known as Ms. Marvel, Rogue held on for too long and wound up stealing Carol’s powers permanently. Making matters worse, Rogue also absorbed Carol’s consciousness, leaving Carol powerless and without memory.

New Fan Theory Suggests How the MCU Could Do a Secret Invasion Movie

SPOILERS ahead for the Captain Marvel movie!

This new fan theory would be a pretty clever way for the MCU to still eventually do a Secret Invasion movie despite Captain Marvel turning the Skrulls into the good guys.

As posited by ComicBookMovie.com, "while the movie may end with Carol Danvers heading into outer space with them, there's one crucial scene which could set the stage for Secret Invasion. When Talos and the Skrulls are escaping from Mar-Vell's ship, his daughter watches her father slaughter the Kree (despite him telling the girl's mother to cover her eyes) and it doesn't seem like too much of a stretch to assume that she will grow up to be Veranke."

Double Fine’s Caryl Shaw: Thanking My Heroes

Editors Note: This year, for International Women's Day, we wanted to open our platform up to developers to share their experiences, their thoughts, and their messages to the community as we all reflect on the contributions women have made in the games industry. We're incredibly grateful these (very busy) women took the time out of their day to share this message with you all.

Years ago, I worked with a woman who rarely spoke specifically about being a “woman game developer.” I never asked her directly, but it always seemed like her general preference was just to be referred to as a game developer. I think in this respect, she was just ahead of her time -- or at least she wanted to be. She wanted all the people that contributed to game development to be treated as equals.

Black History Month may be over, but that doesn’t mean that support for all kinds of black culture and art should drift from the public eye. The black cosplay community carved out a very special place during the month of February, using the hashtag #28daysofblackcosplay.

Created by Chaka Cumberbatch-Tinsley, this movement celebrates an amazing amount of jaw-droppingly talented creators that all post their work at once. The showcase was developed, in part, to combat racism that cosplayers of color often experience.
