Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Reveals First New Blackout Map

Activision has announced the first new map for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s Blackout battle royale mode. And just to get this out of the way, no, this isn’t an April Fool’s joke in any way.

The map is called Alcatraz, and it’s based on the prison island of the same name in the San Francisco Bay. It appears to be a much smaller Blackout map than the current one, and Alcatraz’s debut trailer (which you can watch below) describes it as being “close quarters battle royale” as a result.

The trailer also features longer range fights around the outside of the map’s central prison, as well as what looks like a fair amount of verticality with a lighthouse and even a moving gondola-type thing for your team to ride to the top of the prison – which, of course, has zombies in it.

You can see the now deleted tweet in question below, which IGN took a screenshot of, and it reveals the September 13, 2019, release date alongside a call to "pre-order now for the Gold Weapon Skins Pack!"

Borderlands 3

Considering that it is April 1, it's important to note this could have been some attempt at a joke, but there isn't anything too out of the ordinary about this announcement.

Reddit’s r/Games Shuts Down for April Fools’ Day

The r/Games Reddit has been shut down for April Fools’ Day in order to shed light on the community becoming increasingly combative and derogatory towards minority and marginalized groups.

The r/GamesMods created this post last night explaining exactly why the r/Games Reddit is being shut down for a day. Until tomorrow, no r/Games posts can be created or commented on. A meta thread for a discussion on this decision will open when r/Games goes back up tomorrow.

t’s come to our attention that what has been intended to be a forum for the potential spread of knowledge and involvement in video games has instead become a battleground of conflicting ideas,” reads the post. "Ordinarily, this isn’t an issue; discussion by its very nature is certain to bring argument, but when that argument descends into vitriolic attacks between individuals on a regular basis with no chance at deescalation, that’s when, put simply, something’s got to give."
