Batman Faces a New Dark Knight
Netflix Partners With Dark Horse Entertainment for Future Series
Following the success of The Umbrella Academy, Netflix and Dark Horse Entertainment have announced that they will continue to work together for both TV and film projects.
Under this new deal, Netflix will have a first look at Dark Horse's IP for both film and TV and both parties have already started exploring what will be coming next.
In addition to The Umbrella Academy, Netflix and Dark Horse also collaborated on Jonas Åkerlund’s feature film Polar, which we said was "bolstered by
Mikkelsen's memorable performance, but can't overcome a lackluster supporting cast."
The Umbrella Academy, which was seen by over 45 million people, was recently renewed for a second season with the main cast set to return. The first season was influenced by the comic book series The Umbrella Academy: Apocalypse Suite and, in our review, we said "The Umbrella Academy blends self-aware humor with stylish storytelling to deconstruct an already overpopulated genre."
Opinion: Why Endgame’s Treatment of Hulk Is So Disappointing
Spoiler Alert! There are tons of spoilers for Avengers: Endgame, Infinity War and much of the MCU below. You've been warned!
With so many beloved characters crammed into Avengers: Endgame, even with a three-hour run time some were bound to get short shrift. It’s nevertheless shocking and disappointing that the Hulk, one of the most popular original Avengers and the second-longest tenured MCU hero, is almost completely absent from both Endgame and Infinity War.
Wait a second, you might say. Hulk is all over Endgame! The simple truth, however, is that the character featured in Endgame -- helpfully dubbed Professor Hulk by the internet in honor of a similarly merged version from the comics -- is not the Hulk at all.
There Are 8K TV Deals Happening Right Now, but Is 8K TV Even Worth It?
If you buy something through this post, IGN may get a share of the sale. For more, read our Terms of Use.
If CES 2019 showed us anything, it's that the days of the 4K TV are numbered. I know, it's insane. While the 8K future isn't going to overtake us in the near-term, long term it seems like a sure thing.
Even though 4K hasn't hit widespread distribution yet (you can't watch the Super Bowl in 4K, for example), that hasn't stopped television makers from parading out the next step in resolution. I had a chance to look at TCL's 8K TV offerings first-hand at CES 2019, and the results were actually incredible.
Ghost Recon: Breakpoint Revealed
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Breakpoint - a follow-up to Ghost Recon: Wildlands - has been revealed.
Breakpoint is set on the fictional archipelago of Auroa in the Pacific Ocean. Set for release on October 4 for PC, Xbox One and PS4, the game will follow on from Wildlands by allowing full 4-player co-op across its stealth-action focused open world. It will also launch with an (as-yet unspecified) PvP mode.
Ghost Recon: Breakpoint's name was leaked alongside a special edition version of the game yesterday.
New features include a class system (although you can swap between classes freely), loot in the open world, light survival elements, and Prone Camo (the ability to slather yourself in mud to avoid detection). Post-launch, the game will also add endgame Raids.
Ghost Recon: Breakpoint – 5 Similarities and Differences to Wildlands
On the walls of Ubisoft Paris’ art department, there’s a flow chart showing how Ghost Recon: Breakpoint evolved in the course of its development. At the top of that chart, there are four words that sell the concept pretty succinctly: “Ghost Recon: Wildlands 2”.
Ghost Recon’s taken many and varied forms since its PS2 debut, but Breakpoint feels like one of the most definitive sequels in the series, reupping and updating not only the story, but the style, mechanics and feel of Wildlands. During my visit to the developers, and in a short hands-on, it became clear that a great deal was staying very much the same for this new violent trek through the wilderness. But along the way, Ubisoft’s developers made very clear that this isn’t a reskin - here are the key similarities and differences I spotted:
Introducing Hearthstone’s New Solo Adventure: The Dalaran Heist
Hearthstone is doing things a little differently this year; the three expansions and solo adventure content will all be tied together by one overarching storyline. So far we’ve had the release of Rise of Shadows, which introduced us to the “League of E.V.I.L.,” a group of returning villains – Arch-Villain Rafaam, Dr. Boom, Hagatha the Witch, Togwaggle and Madame Lazul - but aside from some cool new mechanics and cards, we didn’t really know what they were up to. Until now!
Yes, the next solo adventure launches on May 16 in NA (local times may vary – it will be May 17 in ANZ, for instance) and will be called The Dalaran Heist. In it, the League of E.V.I.L. is clearly thinking big – they’re not just planning heists within the magical floating city of Dalaran, they’re planning on making off with the whole thing!
How Miyamoto Was Convinced to Let Eternal Darkness Break the Fourth Wall
Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem was one of the Nintendo GameCube’s most critically acclaimed titles, made infamous for its mind-bending horror and suspense. Nothing illustrates the game’s brand better than some of its fourth wall-breaking scares. According to former Silicon Knights president Denis Dyack, implementing one of the most controversial moments (where the game “erases” your save files) was a matter of convincing some of Nintendo’s highest executives, like Shigeru Miyamoto.
“That
was my personal favorite,” Dyack said on this month’s episode of IGN Unfiltered. “I sat down and made sure that meter went really slow, enough for people to start screaming. So Mr. Miyamoto sat down with us and said, 'Denis, what if someone looks at that and gets really angry and throws their GameCube against the wall because they think it's bugged out? Is that our fault?'”
I Am Mother Trailer Debut: New Netflix Sci-Fi Thriller
IGN has your exclusive first look at the new trailer for I Am Mother, a sci-fi thriller debuting on June 7th. The film follows a teenage girl (Clara Rugaard), who is the first of a new generation of humans to be raised by Mother (voiced by Rose Byrne), a robot designed to repopulate the Earth after the extinction of humankind.
But the pair’s unique relationship is threatened when an injured stranger (Hilary Swank) arrives with news that calls into question everything Daughter has been told about the outside world and her Mother’s intentions.
I Am Mother is directed by Grant Sputore from a script by Michael Lloyd Green, based on a story by Sputore and Green. "Right from the outset, in the very early conversations between Michael and I about what this film was going to be, as the image of a hard-surfaced robot holding a baby,” Sputore said during a phone interview with IGN this week. "We really wanted to highlight the differences between robots and humans, particularly the aesthetic differences, while highlighting the intellectual similarities. We can be motivated by similar things, but we aren't the same thing. And we can think similarly."
James Cameron Congratulates Avengers: Endgame For Overtaking Titantic
James Cameron has passed on his congratulations to Avengers: Endgame as it has surpassed Titanic's second-place box office record of $2.187 billion.
Avengers: Endgame has rocketed to the second biggest box-office take ever, amassing $2.272 Billion in under two weeks of being released. As reported by Empire, this means Avengers: Endgame has beaten Titanic’s previously held box office record of $2.187 billion, with now only Cameron's Avatar standing in the way of it being the biggest (box office) movie in history. As is customary in Hollywood, Titanic’s director James Cameron sent Marvel his congratulations.
