My Arcade Retro Champ Is the Portable NES of Your Dreams
The My Arcade Retro Champ is essentially a Nintendo version of the Game Gear that never existed. It’s a portable console you can use to play both old-school Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) and Famicom cartridges.
The Retro Champ features a 7-inch LCD screen for playing on the go, similar to the Nintendo Switch. And just like Nintendo’s latest console, this portable NES features a kickstand that props up the console when you’re tired of holding it.
Alternatively, users can plug in the Retro Champ into a TV using the HDMI port located on the back of the device to play their retro games on the big screen. Of course, you’ll want a controller for this type of play and users can connect this system to one of My Arcade’s wireless controllers like the SuperPad—which didn’t add any discernible lag to me.
The Sinking City: Sherlock Holmes Meets Cthulhu
The Sinking City has one of the most intriguing settings of any game I've played in some time. You take the role of a private investigator in the 1920s who's come to the coastal city of Oakmont, Massachusetts, where something dark and strange is afoot. Water levels are rising, flooding many of the city's streets, leaving citizens (and you) to navigate them by boat. Worse, Lovecraftian horrors are emerging from the depths and killing people on land. It's up to you to discover what's going on and try to stop it. Along the way, you'll have plenty of other murders and mysteries to solve.
In my hands-on demo at E3 2019, the investigator had an appointment to meet a man at a theater. When I arrived, I found a police barricade blocking the entrance. "I'll have to find another way in," my character said to himself, because that's how video game characters give hints to players. This would turn out to be one of the more obvious nudges I encountered. For the most part, The Sinking City trusts you to figure things out for yourself.

Persona 5 DLC Announced for Catherine: Full Body
Persona 5 DLC, with full English voice over by the original cast, has been announced for Catherine: Full Body.
During the Catherine: Full Body Experience and E3 Celebration, a brand new trailer was shown, showcasing the Joker + Phantom Thieves DLC. It looks to be the same DLC the Japanese version of Catherine: Full Body got last year, which allowed you to play as Joker in the Babel and Coliseum modes with commentary by the Phantom Thieves, and included some music from the notoriously amazing sound track. If you play Catherine: Full Body, you may hear some similarities - both it and Persona 5 have music composed by Shoji Meguro.
Catch a look at Joker in action in a level from the Japanese version of Catherine: Full Body above.
How Tom Nook Uses His Money and 14 More Details About Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the next entry in the beloved series and we’ve learned plenty since it was revealed for the Nintendo Switch back in 2018. In an interview with IGN at E3, Nintendo’s Aya Kyogoku and Hisashi Nogami told IGN more details about the upcoming game along with some new information about features shown during the New Horizons Nintendo Treehouse live presentation.
You’ll start with two or so neighbors in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Ranking The E3 Conferences
E3 isn’t just about what games are announced: it’s about how they’re announced. Every year the major players (except for Sony, in this case) get up on their respective stages and do their best to wow us with the most explosive presentation they can muster, and 2019 was no exception. IGN watched them all with bated breath, and while each of them had some impressive games to show that made us excited about the next year-and-change of upcoming games and gaming-related stuff, here’s how we thought all the major conferences ranked, from most exciting to least.
Best: Nintendo Direct - Tuesday, June 11
How do you get gamers to swallow the bitter pill of a delay until March 2020 for Animal Crossing: New Horizons? How about announcing that you’re working on a follow-up to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild? Yes, that’ll do it. Nintendo’s Direct hit almost all the right notes with its steady stream of announcements, updated looks, and release dates.
Contra Rogue Corps Plays Nothing Like the Original
If you were just going off gameplay alone, you’d never know that Contra Rogue Corps is the latest entry in the storied Contra series. It’s a completely new direction for the classic 2D sidescrolling franchise that evolves it into an entirely 3D twin-stick shooter. Rogue Corps also adds elements of character progression in the form of being able to upgrade both your weapons, and the cybernetic parts of your body – another staple of today’s standards.
It’s such a dramatic change for the series that there was some strong initial whiplash. While I’m not totally sold that this is the path I want to see Contra pushed down, I at least saw a glimpse of a fun twin-stick shooter. That’s especially true if you’ve got a group of like-minded friends over for some local co-op play when Contra Rogue Corps is released on Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC (Steam) on September 26.
Netflix’s Chronicles of Narnia Reboot Hires Its ‘Creative Architect’
Netflix is making steady headway on its planned transmedia adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia. The streaming giant announced its multi-year deal with the C.S. Lewis Company back in October 2018, with plans to bring the beloved series to life in a series of movies and TV shows, and now it's tapped its "creative architect."
Netflix announced via its Twitter account See What's Next that Coco co-writer Matthew Aldrich will "serve as the creative architect and oversee the development of all films and shows adapted from C.S. Lewis’ beloved Narnia universe for Netflix." While Coco is Aldrich's best-known work, he also wrote the 2007 Samuel L. Jackson thriller Cleaner and the 2018 Guy Pearce thriller Spinning Man.
