Alan Wake Publishing Rights Acquired by Developer Remedy

Remedy Entertainment has acquired the publishing rights to Alan Wake, the supernatural horror it originally developed exclusively for Microsoft’s Xbox 360.

As detailed in a report from Global Newswire, Remedy has just received a one-time payment of 2.5 million euros for royalties on previously-released games. “In relation to this, the publishing rights of Alan Wake games are reverted to Remedy,” says the announcement.

Interestingly, earlier this year Remedy explained that it actually owns the rights to the Alan Wake IP, but that “it’s never quite as simple as that.” With this development, it would appear that while Remedy owned the IP, the publishing rights lay solely with Microsoft, and so it would not have been easy for the studio to simply make a sequel. With both the IP and publishing rights now in its hands, it may be that things are much more simple for Remedy to revisit the world of Bright Falls.

Avengers: Endgame Re-release Fails to Overtake Avatar’s Income

The re-release of Avengers: Endgame has failed to knock Avatar from the top spot as the world’s highest-grossing movie of all time.

The weekend saw the re-release of the MCU’s biggest event to date, with an additional 18 seconds of footage provided in the form of a deleted scene focused on Hulk. But while the re-release earned $5.5 million at the US box office and another $2.3 million worldwide, it’s not enough to overtake Avatar’s monumental income.

Currently, Avengers: Endgame stands at $2.76 billion. Avatar stands approximately $27 million ahead of it, with $2.78 billion grossed during its original theatrical release and re-releases.

As detailed by The Hollywood Reporter, box office insiders suggest that it is impossible for Avengers: Endgame to make that extra $27 million in the “immediate future”. And with Spider-Man: Far From Home releasing this week, MCU fans are likely to be turning their attention to the webslinger rather than his avenging pals.

Castlevania Showrunner Wants to Make Live-Action My Hero Academia

Castlevania showrunner Adi Shankar has become well known for his dark retellings of the nerdy franchises that we hold near and dear to our hearts, but which fandom does he want to tackle next?

Last week, Shankar added a gritty, violent Pokemon parody, The End of Pokemon, to his Bootleg Cinematic Universe. After the trailer debuted exclusively on IGN, we caught up with Shankar to ask if there are any anime series he dreams of adapting for live-action. He told IGN’s Jacki Jing that the anime at the top of his wishlist is My Hero Academia.

“It’s that tone that Pixar really nails - adult themes, not watered down,” Shankar said of how he would approach adapting a series that is much lighter than the likes of Castlevania or his upcoming Devil May Cry series for Netflix.

It’s Official: Netflix Has Ordered a Sandman TV Show
