Disney+ Developing Home Alone, 3 Other Fox Movies as Streaming Shows
Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed that Home Alone, Night at the Museum, Cheaper by the Dozen, and The Diary of a Wimpy Kid will be developed into Disney+ streaming shows.
As reported by Variety, these "four big brands from Fox" becoming shows will be part of Disney's new plan for the properties it acquired through its merger from Fox.
Iger also said that the Fox film development slate would be scrapped and taken "in a new direction" following a $170 million operating loss for Q3 that was in part due to the lackluster performance of Dark Phoenix.
DuckTales: Remastered Being Pulled from Digital Storefronts This Week
DuckTales: Remastered will be pulled from digital storefronts beginning on August 8, 2019, although those who own the game will still be able to access and play it.
While Capcom gave no reason for this removal, it most likely has something to do with licensing issues as DuckTales is a Disney property.
For the final few days of its availability, DuckTales: Remastered will be "75% off most platforms before it gets removed for purchase." The platforms and removal times are below;
- Wii U - August 9, 4:59pm PT/7:59pm ET
Disney Blames Dark Phoenix, Fox Films for Q3 Losses
Thanks to the box office performance of Avengers: Endgame, Captain Marvel, and Toy Story this past fiscal quarter, Disney saw its revenue increase by 33% year-over-year to $20.25 billion. Analysts, however, reportedly expected earnings to be over $21 billion.
So despite their stellar box office success -- the studio has already set a box office milestone for 2019 and they still have Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and Frozen 2 on the way -- Disney nevertheless posted lackluster results for the year's fiscal third quarter, which saw Disney stocks slide more than 4%.
Michelle Rodriguez Slams Fast & Furious Writer Over ‘Justice For Han’
Michelle Rodriguez, who has played Letty since 2001's The Fast and the Furious, has taken issue with longtime Fast & Furious writer/producer Chris Morgan over his "Justice for Han" comments.
Speaking to EW, Morgan discussed how he loves "Justice for Han," which refers to the death of The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift's Han Seoul-Oh by Jason Staham's Deckard Shaw, and how the justice fans have been clamoring for will be forthcoming in the franchise.
“I love ‘justice for Han,’” Morgan said. “Sung Kang is a great friend, and Han is a character that I adore. I would say that the super-arc for Deckard Shaw is going to be one of the most interesting, cool, rewarding character arcs in the franchise. Justice for Han is owed. It’s something we have discussed for a very long time and want to give the right due to. I think the audience will be satisfied and should know it’s coming. There’s a line in Hobbs & Shaw that is right before the battle in Samoa where Shaw says to his sister, ‘There’s things I’ve done that I have to make amends for.’ That line was specifically written and put in there just to let everyone know that he is talking about Han — it is on his mind. It tortures him, and he’s going to get to it.”
FX’s American Crime Story Gets a Season 3 Order, Premiere Date
At the Television Critics Association summer press tour, FX Boss John Landgraf announced a Season 3 order for the award-winning anthology series, American Crime Story. Season 3, titled Impeachment: American Crime Story, "unravels the national scandal that swept up Paula Jones, Monica Lewinsky, and Linda Tripp as principal characters in the country’s first impeachment proceedings in over a century," according to a synopsis from FX.
Portraying these characters will be Sarah Paulson as Linda Tripp, Beanie Feldstein as Monica Lewinsky, and Annaleigh Ashford as Paula Jones. The series will premiere on Sunday, September 27, 2020, at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on FX.
“FX’s American Crime Story franchise has become a cultural touchstone, providing greater context for stories that deserve greater understanding like the O.J. Simpson trial and saga, and Andrew Cunanan’s tragic crime spree which concluded with the assassination of Gianni Versace,” said Landgraf. “This franchise re-examines some of the most complicated, polarizing stories in recent history in a way that is relevant, nuanced and entertaining.
WWE 2K Games Will No Longer Be Developed By Yuke’s
Japanese developer Yuke’s will no longer be developing WWE wrestling games for 2K, including the upcoming WWE 2K20. Yuke's has been developing WWE/WWF games for nearly 20 years.
2K confirmed that starting with WWE 2K20 and going forward, Visual Concepts will be the sole developer of WWE wrestling games. Visual Concepts served as co-developer on the WWE 2K series starting with WWE 2K14.
2K gave the following statement to IGN:
“WWE 2K20 will be developed by Visual Concepts, who have worked with Yuke’s on the development of the series since WWE 2K14. As we’ve continued to invest in the WWE 2K franchise, we’ve seen the Visual Concepts team deisplay incredible passion, talent and commitment to the future of the series. We thank Yuke’s for their years of partnership and are excited to see what the Visual Concepts team brings to the franchise moving forward.”
Disney to Bundle Disney+, Hulu & ESPN+ for $12.99 a Month
Disney will be making things a little simpler for streaming customers after Disney+ debuts this November. During a quarterly earnings call (via Deadline), CEO Bob Iger confirmed rumors that Disney will offer a discounted subscription plan that combines the company's three core streaming services into one bundle.
The bundle includes Disney+, ESPN+ and the basic, on-demand version of Hulu. The bundle will be priced at $12.99 per month, a $5 discount versus subscribing to all three plans individually. Not coincidentally, $12.99 is the same price as Netflix's standard monthly subscription plan.
Mortal Kombat 11 Developers Will Fight DDOS Attacks Messing Up Competitive Leaderboards
There is a vulnerability in Mortal Kombat 11 that’s allowing players to fall victim to distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks. And malicious players are taking advantage of this vulnerability to climb the Kombat League leaderboards.
Mortal Kombat 11 competitive mode players have been complaining about a player in the ranked mode who’s been playing under various usernames and sending DDoS attacks to opponents.
Using names like pa3com, pa4com, and Son-Goku-DZ, this player uses DDoS attacks to force opponents in competitive mode to disconnect from the internet. This player has used these attacks to climb all the way to the Elder God top rank of Mortal Kombat 11’s competitive mode.
Psyonix Axing Randomized Rocket League Loot Crates Later This Year
Psyonix will phase randomized loot crates out of Rocket League later this year, the developer announced Tuesday in an official post.
The loot crates will be replaced by a system in which the player can see exactly what items they will be purchasing in advance. Specifically, the developer referenced the changes that Epic Games made to Fortnite (Epic Games acquired Rocket League developer Psyonix earlier this year), in which players can see what items are up for grabs before making a purchase with its X-Ray Llamas introduced earlier this year.
