The Eternals: Angelina Jolie Explains Why This Is the MCU Movie She Said ‘Yes’ To
Angelina Jolie is officially entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe thanks to her role as Thena in Marvel's The Eternals. IGN caught up with Jolie following the 2020 film's D23 Expo debut during the Disney Studios Theatrical panel to discuss why this was the Marvel movie she said "yes" to.
"When they called me in for this, I'm a big fan of the director
, and I think she's going to make a very special film," Jolie said. (You can watch the full interview above.)
just a really a love letter to Earth and very character-based, but also very, very big and we're going to expand a long period of time and try different things. I love the storytelling, and I happen to love Thena. She's very aggressive and I like her and I'm ready for that now."
Why Sam Wilson Isn’t Captain America in Falcon and the Winter Soldier
When Steve Rogers handed his shield to Sam Wilson at the end of Avengers: Endgame, fans assumed that the Star-Spangled Man was also handing over the mantle of Captain America to his longtime ally.
But according to Anthony Mackie, Sam Wilson isn't Captain America when The Falcon and the Winter Soldier kicks off (which explains why the Disney+ series isn't called Captain America and the Winter Soldier).
"I’m not Captain America. Just because he told me to hold his shield, he didn’t say 'you’re Captain America now,'" Mackie pointed out when talking to IGN on the Disney+ red carpet at Disney's D23 Expo. "He’s like, 'I’m gonna go back and see my girl, call me if something happens. I don’t wanna carry this dumb shield.'"
Angelina Jolie Had No Idea Kit Harington Was Cast in The Eternals
Marvel fans were surprised to learn Kit Harington is joining the cast of The Eternals, but apparently not as surprised as co-star Angeline Jolie. Jolie didn't find out Harington had signed on to play Dane Whitman until he joined the rest of the cast on-stage at D23.
In an interview with ET, Jolie admitted she and her fellow cast members were taken aback by the sudden announcement.
"I'm not so sure what we can say," Jolie told ET. "I still think we're seeing each other behind the scenes, like, 'Did you hear...?' I didn't know Kit was in the film! It's a whole thing. I'm thrilled, but I had no idea."
Star Wars: The Emperor Is ‘Very Instrumental’ in The Rise of Skywalker
The Emperor is going to play a key figure in the upcoming Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and his shadow looms large over the movie (especially if the new poster revealed at D23 Expo 2019 is any indication).
IGN caught up with the stars of the movie -- Daisy Ridley, John Boyega and Kelly Marie Tran -- following their D23 panel presentation to discuss why it was important the Emperor (or at least some version of) be resurrected for the conclusion of the Skywalker Saga. You can watch the full interviews above.

“Basically, we’ve made five great movies,” Holland said in a chat with Entertainment Weekly. “It’s been five amazing years. I’ve had the time of my life. Who knows what the future holds? But all I know is that I’m going to continue playing Spider-Man and having the time of my life. It’s going to be so fun, however we choose to do it."
Star Wars: Dave Filoni Teases More Stories After Clone Wars
Animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars is getting a belated seventh season on Disney+. But while that's definitely good news for Star Wars fans, Lucasfilm Animation head Dave Filoni is making it clear that we shouldn't expect the series to continue beyond Season 7. The Clone Wars are ending, even if Ahsoka Tano's story isn't.
We spoke to Filoni at D23 Expo this weekend and asked how he felt about finally getting the chance to wrap up the series. "I love that I've gotten to finish it," Filoni said. "It means so much to me and the people making it. In some ways it's a very personal project, because it's a show I worked on with George Lucas. The team and I that made it love that time in our lives that we got to be up at Skywalker Ranch making it. It's so special to us."
Hayley Atwell Shares if Captain America Told Peggy About Kissing Sharon
Hayley Atwell, who plays Peggy Carter in numerous Avengers projects, shared with IGN whether or not Chris Evans' Steve Rogers would have told her character about kissing Sharon Carter – Peggy's great-niece.
"Probably, in a very awkward way, that probably meant there was a domestic," Atwell explains. "Words were said, voices may have risen. Wouldn't that be hilarious? If they had a proper argument about it and she just slams the door and he goes off fishing for the weekend for something, I don't know," she says laughing.
Atwell continues, "Because it's the '40s I think it can have such a beautiful, wholesome, kind of screwball comedy tone to it, rather than a soap opera. Let's write it now, let's do it," she adds.
Star Wars: Rey’s Dark Side Transformation Completes ‘A Big Old Journey’
Disney revealed a critical new plot point for the upcoming Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker at D23 Expo on Saturday. Alongside the debut of the film's latest poster, we saw new footage showing Rey succumbing to the Dark Side and wielding a double-bladed red lightsaber. And according to star Daisy Ridley, this unexpected transformation is all part of Rey's journey in the Star Wars saga.
"I think that it should hopefully show people that we did a big old journey and we explored some things," said Ridley after the Disney panel. "So just you wait until the film."
