Madden NFL 20 Gets Weirder and Looser With Superstar KO
Superstar KO streamlines every aspect of the Madden NFL 20 experience. One offensive possession for each team, no field goals or punts, stripped-down playbooks, mandatory two-point conversions, and a sudden-death overtime tiebreaker. It’s as if college football overtime and arena football had a love child. EA postulates that the online-only multiplayer mode, which will be launching on Madden 20 servers later this month, will require about eight minutes of actual gametime. For longtime football gamers who eulogize the cheeky arcade chaos of NFL Street and NFL Blitz, this should be taken as an olive branch. After years of elaborating on the monolithic algorithms of Madden Ultimate Team and the salary-cap math of Franchise Mode, Superstar KO returns Madden to its core base -- people who always go for it on 4th down.
SteelSeries Announces the First Wireless Gaming Headset for the Switch
SteelSeries has introduced the first wireless gaming headset for the Nintendo Switch—and when I say wireless I don’t mean Bluetooth.
Rather the Arctis 1 Wireless connects to the Switch using SteelSeries’ lossless 2.4GHz wireless technology. The headset’s accompanying dongle may look strikingly similar to the third-party Bluetooth dongles companies like HopeSpot, Genki, and Bionik have made, but it doesn’t require you to pair it to a separate set of Bluetooth headphones or Bluetooth earbuds.
See Zelda: Link’s Awakening’s New Chamber Dungeon Mode in Action
With under a month until The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening's release on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo is showing off more than just what fans may remember from the beloved adventure, having given IGN a chance to go hands-on with the completely new Chamber Dungeon mode.
Between a few run-throughs of the new mode and a chance to dive into the reimagined version of the third dungeon, it’s clear that: Nintendo is making some exciting advancements to this remake; the art style continues to be one of my favorites of the franchise; and that Link’s Awakening still has some performance issues in Full Screen/Docked mode.
Joker Will be in the Running for an Oscar, says Film Festival Director
Venice Film Festival director Alberto Barbera has identified Joker as an early Oscar contender following its premiere screening at the 76th annual event on Saturday.
In an interview with Deadline, Barbera discussed Joker’s resoundingly positive reception and further stoked awards buzz by endorsing critics' praise for Joaquin Phoenix's apparent Oscar-worthy performance as the Clown Prince of Crime.
"They're very good," he said of the film's Academy prospects. "Absolutely, it will be in the running.
"The film deserves the reception it is getting," he continued. "It goes beyond the boundaries of the genre. Joaquin Phoenix's performance is outstanding and Todd Phillips did a great job."
Cyberpunk 2077: Cutscenes Will Be in First-Person Perspective
All of Cyberpunk 2077's cutscenes will be locked to first-person perspective, according to CD Projekt Red.
Since the core gameplay of Cyberpunk 2077 is also first-person, this means players will rarely see their character's appearance. The studio's global community lead, Marcin Momot, says this is a deliberate decision that prioritises narrative flow.
He tweeted, "Achieving full immersion in an FPP game is extremely important and the decision made by the team to go 100% first person in @CyberpunkGame is something that will benefit it greatly from gameplay and story-telling perspectives."
He added that players would still be able to see what their character looks like in the inventory screen, during driving sequences, in reflections and "very occasionally" in some cutscenes. Any sex scenes in the game will play out from a first-person perspective, according to the official Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter account.

Checking in with FroStee – Australia’s Hearthstone Grandmaster
One of the biggest changes to the competitive Hearthstone scene this year has been the introduction of Grandmasters – a league-style system featuring 48 of the top players in the world, divided into three regions: APAC, North America and Europe, each with 16 players. The second season of Grandmasters started quite recently, and sees players battling it out every weekend to try and come out on top in their respective region and earn a place at the Hearthstone Global Finals at BlizzCon. Season 2 will also see two players from each region relegated to make room for fresh faces, so the stakes are high. On top of that, this season has also introduced a new format, moving away from Specialist towards a modified version of Conquest. You can find out what a number of Hearthstone pros think about that change here.
Control Debug Tool Reveals Possible DLC Focusing on Side Character
Future DLC for Remedy Entertainment’s Control may have been inadvertently revealed after a YouTuber used the game’s debug tool on PC to discover a hidden mission reference.
Discovered by YouTuber ManFightDragon and first reported by PC Gamer, the evidence seems to be a mission name that’s absent from the main game, but possibly focuses on a side character.
For those unfamiliar, a debug tool allows a developer to test various parts of a game before release. Oftentimes, to save time or money, a developer might just put an unused asset somewhere the player can’t find it. ManFightDragon managed to use Control’s debug tool to find a possible reference to DLC, which you can see at the 5:20 mark in their YouTube video.
How Frozen 2 Songs Will Compare to the Original Disney Movie
Don't expect "Let It Go 2.0" when Frozen 2 hits theaters later in 2019. Star Idina Menzel describes the new songs in the upcoming sequel to be "apples and oranges" when compared with the 2013 film.
"The music is exquisite. I'm really proud of it. I really think that it tells beautiful stories and develops the story in an extraordinary way," she told IGN at D23 Expo 2019. "It's not about the comparison. It's really apples and oranges. I love the music in the movie, that I sing and that I don't sing, and I think it will really resonate with people."
The D23 panel debuted a new song for Elsa (Menzel), which sees her grappling with whether or not to pursue a mysterious singing voice that is calling out to her. The lyrics include lines like: "Are you here to distract me so I make a big mistake? Or are you someone out there who’s a little bit like me, who knows deep down I’m not where I’m meant to be? Every day’s a little harder as I feel my power grow. Don’t you know there’s a part of me that longs to go into the unknown?"
Solasta: Crown of the Magister Might Be the D&D Video Game We Deserve
Ever since I was a kid I’ve been drawn to the fantastical adventures found in tabletop roleplaying games – sat around a table with friends playing Dungeons & Dragons there is a sense you could get lost in a game system that supports truly limitless opportunity and storytelling. As video games grew and evolved, the desire to try and capture that experience in video game form was an obvious next step. And since then, we’ve gotten some really incredible games.
I cut my teeth on a mountain of Gold Box PC adventures, tile-based dungeon crawlers like Eye of the Beholder, and the Infinity-engine series like Baldur’s Gate, Planescape, and Icewind Dale. I murdered scores of kobolds, gnolls, and skeletons in hack-and-slash adventures like Dark Alliance and Champions of Norrath. And most recently, the earnest attempts at capturing the licensed experience wholesale in games like Sword Coast Legends, and the near-perfect combat systems of Larian’s Divinity: Original Sin series.
