IGN’s Favorite Halloween Movies

Halloween is here! It’s the best day of the year, surely, and one of the ways we at IGN love to celebrate it is by watching our favorite Halloween movies. But what counts as a Halloween movie anyway? The answer is easy: Anything counts as long as it gets you in the Halloween mood!

So what do we at IGN like to watch on this most holiest of days? A bunch of our staff have chimed in with their favorite pics. Read on for all of them… and happy Halloween!

The Shining

I get why author Stephen King has never been fond of this particular adaptation of his work. The basic plot of Stanley Kubrick's The Shining may follow the book, but the execution is much different. But all that really matters is The Shining is one of the most technically impressive and rewatchable horror movies around. Kubrick was never one to forget the small details. It's a chilling look at three family members trapped in a remote hotel and going mad. Is the Overlook actually haunted, or is this just a particularly extreme case of cabin fever? That the movie leaves itself so open to interpretation is one of its greatest strengths. There's a reason it's inspired so many bizarre yet fascinating fan theories over the years, including the one where some folks think Kubrick is using the film to confess his role in faking the Apollo 11 moon landing.
