No, The New Mutants Isn’t an MCU Movie

A D23.com news briefs article spotlighting the upcoming Fox Marvel movie The New Mutants got fans in a tizzy when it seemingly revealed groundbreaking information connecting the X-Men universe movie to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but we're here to let you know that it was not true. The article referred to The New Mutants as the "seriously electrifying new addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe," and while the former very well may be the case, IGN can confirm that the latter is not. No, The New Mutants isn't an MCU movie, though it is the first Fox Marvel movie to be released since Disney's acquisition of the studio. The D23.com article has since been removed from the official Disney fan club website, but you can see the original comment in the screenshot below: [caption id="attachment_228461" align="alignnone" width="864"]new-mutants-mcu-marvel-d23 D23.com incorrectly referred to the upcoming X-Men universe film as a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.[/caption] When the purported MCU connection started spreading around social media, fans were intrigued, though doubtful of its accuracy: Directed by Josh Boone, The New Mutants is finally hitting theaters on April 3 in the US (April 8 in the UK) after being delayed for almost two years. While promoting the new trailer's release, Boone confirmed that this was the original version of the movie that he shot for Fox, despite the Disney acquisition. If you haven't already, be sure to watch the recently released trailer for The New Mutants below: [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/01/06/the-new-mutants-official-trailer-2"] The New Mutants' release is interesting because, as mentioned earlier in this article, it is the first X-Men universe movie to be released since Disney acquired Fox, and since that acquisition, the future of the X-Men franchise has been unclear. While Dark Phoenix seemingly brought the core X-Men franchise to a close and Gambit is well and truly dead, The New Mutants was designed to expand the scope of Fox's X-Men movies with a more standalone story using other characters from the X-Men comics pantheon -- a move conceived in a pre-Disney/Fox world. Because of its delayed release and the acquisition leaving X-Men's Disney future unclear, there was a concern that The New Mutants might be shelved permanently, though fortunately, that was not the case. This is standalone from the Marvel Cinematic Universe's pantheon of characters, though, which is why the seeming confirmation of its existence within the MCU earlier Friday would have completely recontextualized The New Mutants movie's function and purpose. Even though they haven't been announced, Marvel's Kevin Feige confirmed he does have plans for the X-Men to join the larger MCU. At San Diego Comic-Con, he told IGN, "Whatever we do will be quite different than what’s been done before." You can watch our full interview with Feige below: [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/07/21/kevin-feige-on-x-men-plans-no-avengers-movie-in-phase-4-comic-con-2019"] The New Mutants stars Anya Taylor-Joy as Magik, Maisie Williams as Wolfsbane, Henry Zaga as Sunspot, Charlie Heaton as Sam Guthrie, Blu Hunt as Danielle Moonstar, Alice Braga as Dr. Cecilia Reyes and Antonio Banderas as the film's villain. While The New Mutants may not be a part of the MCU Phase 4 lineup, plenty of other titles are. Venom Director ‘Top Choice’ to Helm Uncharted Movie

After losing its sixth director, it seems the upcoming Uncharted film might have landed its newest one in Venom and Zombieland's Ruben Fleischer. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Fleischer is Sony's ideal choice to join Tom Holland and potentially Mark Wahlberg in the project as the seventh, and hopefully final, director. Fleischer is no stranger to Sony, as Venom and Zombieland are both its properties. So, it doesn't come as a huge surprise that executives would like him to head up this major project — however, negotiations have not yet begun. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-strange-history-of-the-uncharted-movie&captions=true"] At the end of December, the news broke that Travis Knight would no longer be directing the film due to scheduling issues, which have been rumored to be a result of Holland's busy schedule with the upcoming Spider-Man movie planned for 2021. Despite the set back, reports still state that the film is on track with no major changes. Earlier this year, Sony announced PlayStation Productions, an in-house development studio responsible for turning Sony's games into movies. Shawn Layden, previous Chairman of SIE Worldwide Studios told The Hollywood Reporter, "We feel that now is a good time to look at other media opportunities across streaming or film or television to give our worlds life in another spectrum." Layden continued, "We’ve got 25 years of game development experience and that’s created 25 years of great games, franchises and stories." While nothing has been announced, Sony owns tons of different franchises that it could turn into movies, such as The Last of Us, God of War, and Spyro the Dragon, just to name a few. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/12/31/uncharted-every-director-the-video-game-movie-has-lost-and-why-ign-now"] In the upcoming Uncharted movie, Holland will be portraying a young Nathan Drake while Wahlberg will play Drake's mentor, Victor "Sully" Sullivan. You can catch Sony's Uncharted in theaters on December 18, 2020. In the meantime, be sure to check out the strange history of the Uncharted movie. Iron Man Could Come Back to the MCU, Says Robert Downey, Jr.

Robert Downey Jr., who has played Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since 2008, says there is always a chance that he may return as the legendary Avenger. As reported by CBR.com, Downey Jr. was recently interviewed by Extra for his upcoming film Dolittle, and he offered a glimmer of hope for those wishing to see him as Tony Stark once again. "Yeah, anything could happen." However, he later added, "As far as I'm concerned, I've hung up my guns and I'm good to let it go. I also think that Marvel is on this journey now where they're trying a bunch of other stuff. I'm excited for them to see how all of that goes. It's hard to project but we got a lot of other stuff we want to do." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/08/02/10-best-moments-in-avengers-endgame"] SPOILERS AHEAD for Avengers: Endgame. Obviously, Iron Man dies at the end of Avengers: Endgame, sacrificing himself to save the galaxy. So, this would most likely mean he would have to appear in a prequel story or some alternate universe tale. There have been rumors that Downey Jr. will reprise this iconic role in Marvel Studios' Black Widow, which takes place shortly after Captain America: Civil War. Also, according to Jeff Goldblum, Downey Jr. will return to at least voice Tony Stark in an episode of the animated Disney+ series Marvel's What If...? [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-dead-mcu-character&captions=true"] For more on Iron Man, check out why the Avengers: Endgame writers said that an Iron Man 4 would have been "one too many" for Marvel and read Downey Jr.'s thoughts on his "very sobering" MCU retirement. Known by many for his brutal food reviews, the Food Network Chef Gordon Ramsay has announced on Instagram he will be auctioning off an exclusive lunch to the highest bidder, which will be donated to the Australian wildfire fund. He recently followed up his initial announcements, sharing that he would be adding another seat to the lunch, which earned $100,000 in bids. "Thank you to everyone who bid... the Aussie spirit that I've seen firsthand the past few days is so inspiring," Ramsay said.

Leonardo DiCaprio

Earth Alliance aims to "help address the urgent threats to our planet’s life support systems," and was founded by Leonardo DiCaprio, Laurene Powell Jobs, and Brian Sheth. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Is Getting a 3v3 Gunfight Mode

It’s a new year and Infinity Ward offered a quick update on what players can expect from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare in 2020. While the developers didn’t reveal too many specifics, Infinity Ward announced that a 3v3 version of Gunfight will be coming in the future. Infinity Ward rolled out a Gunfight 1v1 playlist this week but said that it was working on Gunfight 3v3 as well. The developers previously said 3v3 was in the cards back in December, but now the Infinity Ward blog confirmed this as well. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-ign-call-of-duty-review&captions=true"] Gunfight is a new mode in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare where teams of two battle it out on a map with randomized weapons. One quirk of the Gunfight mode is how there are no respawns, so if you are killed you have to sit out for the rest of the round. The first team to six wins takes the game. Gunfight began with a 2v2 mode, but a 1v1 mode was introduced and soon there will be a 3v3 mode. Additionally, Infinity Ward says it will be adding more loadout slots over the coming weeks, increasing the current limit of five. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/11/01/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-review"] Other announcements from today’s community update include more Gunfight Tournaments, more 2XP events, and some bug fixes. The developer says it will keep updating players with regular bug fixes, patch notes, and behind the scenes blogs in 2020. This New Arcade Game Is Like Time Crisis but With Real Airsoft Guns

I grew up playing light gun games like Area: 51 and Time Crisis in my local arcade. Before them, I pointed a large grey zapper at a sizzling CRT playing Duck Hunt with my cousins. Needless to say, I'm no stranger to arcade guns, but I've never played an arcade shooter quite like this. At CES 2020, I got to try out On Point, a new arcade game from Taito and UNIS that plays a lot like the Time Crises of my youth, except it uses actual airsoft pellet guns. The game features a vertically oriented 55-inch screen down range from a tube-fed airsoft gun. The gun feels weighty in your hands, with realistic kickback and, at least on the unit I played, accurate iron sights. For safety, since this is a live-firing weapon, there's cameras and sensors in both the gun and on the screen to ensure that the gun won't shoot unless it's pointed at the screen. There's also a sensor to keep it from shooting if a person is detected (in case someone decides to jump in front of you), and for further safety, the final production unit will have safety walls to further keep interlopers out of the line of fire. There's a variety of game modes, including breaking (virtual) bottles and plates, an accuracy-testing bulls-eye mode, and a police-trainer score attack course. A soft-plastic barrier prevents the pellets from damaging the video screen, with a collection tray below to automatically feed ammo back into the gun. On Point was released in Japan last year, and is scheduled to start shipping to arcades stateside in March of this year. For more from CES 2020, check out our roundup of the 8 coolest things we saw at the show.
